I'd go crazy if I were you. (sounds like you are)

My wife eats anything and has instilled that into my 2 young children.

Some of my kids favorite snacks are sliced bell pepper and cherry tomatoes. There is nothing my 5 yr old won't at least try once. All thanks to my wife.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that I would not marry someone with the palate of a child.

She’s worse than my wife even. She likely has texture issues that carried over from childhood and they’ve become a clinical phobia. My wife has that. When I ask her to try new things, she takes a defensive posture and says “I don’t eat that!” adamantly. Unfortunately, my kids seemed to have inherited the trait from her. I’ve worked like hell trying to “fix” all of them, but I’ve pretty much given up. It’s frustrating as hell because I’m a foodie. I have to research when I want to take them to restaurants to make sure there are items they’ll eat. Fortunately, I travel for work and get to scratch a lot of my itches when I’m on the road.

This is why it wouldn't work for me. One of my favorite things to do is to go out to dinner. I'm not narrowing down my restaurant/food choices because my SO only eats a handful of items. It's annoying enough that we have friends that only want to eat at the same 2 restaurants when we go out with them. I couldn't imagine being married to someone like that

I assume since you do all the cooking you probably do all the grocery shopping.

I'd have a talk with my wife and say that you'll be making balanced meals for the family every night. If she wants to be that picky of an eater, then she can prepare her own meal to eat with the family.

frick catering to that level of pickiness. I understand a couple things she won't eat, but man you've listed a ton of common foods.

What others have said, unless she was supermodel 10 or filthy rich, there's no way I could be with someone like that.

I tried that. My 9 yo daughter took it like I was just being a dick to my wife, so it made me look like an a-hole.

Sent my wife a text earlier told her she can cook dinner. I'm sure it will cost $1000 and taste like fried rubber, but at least it won't go straight in the garbage. I'm considering taking one bite and throwing it away just to serve some medicine.

Your wife sounds like she's 5. Why would you ever marry someone so narrow minded and picky?

I must have missed something after quickly reading through the 3 pages of this thread. You mentioned your wife only eats 5 things. I did not see anywhere where you listed the 5 things that she eats.

Would you list the 5 things that your wife will eat.

It sounds to me like y'all have deeper problems going on.

There are hints throughout the thread.

1. potatoes
2. corn
3. mac and cheese
4. chicken nuggets
5. his will to live

I cannot stand large chunks of celery & onions in soups
I’ll spend 10 minutes picking it out

My wife used to be about that bad. She's gotten better over the years and will venture out every now and again. There are still things she adamantly won't try like salmon. She hates it (or at least thinks that she does). How can you hate something you've never even tried?

I would at least try to get the kids involved in cooking meals so they don't turn out like your wife. Make it fun. Let them pick out one new thing a week to try and get them to help you prepare it. Maybe promise them a couple of sips of wine every now and again if they help. Alcohol appreciation - start 'em young.

Define large chunks

I go insane with people that say they cannot eat a dish if they see the onion

I'm not buying in to this....Tell her to eat what's on her plate or go to bed hungry. But I still don't believe this is the whole story...and I do know picky eaters...
Something else going on here if the OP's story is true but even then????

I am terribly picky but I’m talking about chunks

I don’t like the texture of cooked celery, onion or bell pepper, I love all 3 raw
If it’s diced small I have no issues, it’s mostly celery that grosses me out

Growing up my Dad was a fireman so nights he was working we ate sandwiches
Family meals were regular blue collar meals, I don’t eat most of the vegetable sides though
