Do you consider red beans and rice a soup?

I certainly don't and have never heard anyway claim it was until recently.
Is this a thing?
I'll hang up and listen.

Man I’m craving some white beans

I've seen it a soup special at some restaurants but I don't consider it a soup.
I make some real good white beans.

I don’t consider it soup but I’ve always heard of it and seen it on menus. It’s just that, soup. A lot thinner. I think even Camelia has it on the package.

Wouldn’t a soup have considerable more liquid than most of us would eat w/ RBAR?

Ramrod has a great white bean soup recipe

I guess it would depend on the consistency, right? Someone could certainly make a red beans and rice soup that tasted good, but I think “stew” would be a more appropriate term for what we traditionally eat. There are probably better words than stew, even.

Da frick? Red Beans and Rice is not a soup, no matter how wet and how bean-heavy you eat it. Red Bean Soup or Red Bean Gumbo, however, may be soups. Or gumbos.

Not if you make it properly.

Some lady I worked with years ago called it 'red bean gumbo.' She said she was cooking it for the office and we all wondered what she was going to show up with.
It was red beans and rice, just a little thinner than most.

Natchitoches style red beans and rice is certainly not a soup. I don't think New Orleans style is a soup either, but I really don't care what people call it. As long as they know it's inferior to Natchitoches RB&R.
