Do you alter BBQ sauces?

Since Kroger discontinued(or simple doesn't stock) their Tx Inspired version, I am struggling to find something that isn't so damn sweet. Had to throw out a nearly full bottle of the peppercorn. It was like a desert sauce. Does anyone add something to them to cut this? Like mustard or vinegar? My father used to cut Pig Stand with butter. May have to try that.

Hell yeah! Pig stand or Jack Millers is special when melted butter is added. For sweet, I like Stubbs OG with fig preserves simmered together.

I've been mixing Jack Millers & Cattlemans (or similar) for years. Simmer together, pinch of sugar.

I may try something like that without the sugar.

I don’t like sweet sauce or a strong bbq sauce flavor either.
I use Stubbs original and cook it on stove top and add beer/chicken broth to lighten up the flavor.

My go to store bought sauce is Johnny Harris which isn't very sweet. Lately I've been adding some blackberry preserves to it when doing ribs as sauce for the last 30 minutes or so.

I mix Lillie's Q Smokey BBQ Sauce with 3 Little Pigs Carolina Style Sauce. It's a good mix of sweet and tangy that goes well with chicken and pork.

Why not just make your own sauce?

This Kroger sauce is damn good as-is, but sometimes I’ll get creative and mix with pickle juice, ACV or worshtesher for a thinner vinegar style sauce. Or, when cooking pork shoulder, I’ll add some spicy mustard.

1:1 Sweet Baby Ray's Original & Williamson Bros.
Alter the sweetness level by adjusting the ratio.

Roll your own. It isn't hard and you can alter the sweetness to taste. I do use mustard and apple cider vinegar but I would also want to add something tomato based to keep those flavors from overpowering the sauce.

Stubb’s cut with a little cola. Whether it be Coke, Dr Pepper, or Barq’s. Thin it out and slather it on some ribs. It’s my go-to.

I mix original sweet baby Ray's with Stubb's spicy for the black pepper bite and also I add a little of lea and Perrins steak sauce. That particular steak sauce adds a nice profile from the anchovy.

Sometimes mix Sweet Baby Rays and Jack Millers.
