Dining out on Valentine's Day/Mother's Day

For as long as I can remember I don't recall a dining experience that was issue free if it happened on either Valentine's Day or Mother's Day. I'm talking about making reservations up to weeks ahead at top restaurants, same of them no longer in existence. What should be a relaxed and enjoyable experience ends up being less than expected. Which brings me to the reason for this thread. Year after year when Valentine's Day approaches and I ask my wife if she wants to eat out on Valentine's Day or wait and eat on another day when we know it won't be so busy she always wants to eat on Valentines Day. I also always get the same answer on Mother's Day.
How do you handle eating out on these days. I know it's going to be busy, the staff is going to be stressed, the kitchen is going to be operating at max levels, and in most restaurants fixed menus will be offered which is fine if the food has not been prepared too far in advance (days). Maybe it's just me, but to keep doing the same thing year after year and expecting different results is not logical, but that's what happens.
I don't mind paying for good food, wine, and service, but to pay the same for hurried food and rushed service is wrong. Your thoughts

Eating out on these days isn't about the food. If you have been doing this "year after year" you would think you would have figured that out. These days are about:
1. Wife not having to cook
2. Wife not having to clean kitchen
3. Wife showing her friends on FB that her husband took her out to eat
4. Wife (insert reason here)
The day is about her.

You should put her in her place in some kind of way for this foolishness. Just go the night before or after and you cook her a nice meal at home for Valentines Day.
I don't think at a well run restaurant that V-Day would be all that bad. Mother's Day is always a shite show I bet.

Team up with another husband or two. Do it fancy supper club style. Divide the cooking responsibilities, a couple good bottles of wine, and a decadent dessert.
Bonus if one of the couples has a teen and you can send all of the kids there.

I actually just booked a table at our favorite restaurant. We usually don't go out for V-DAY, but this year I figured what the hell.

Me and the Gf (no pics) go to Waffle House on Valentine's day. It is wonderful.

I've cooked some sort of steak and lobster dinner at home every year my wife and I have been together. I just try to one up myself each year.
I have this planned for this year:

Avoid chain places and it's usually better. But we usually prefer to stay in on Valentine's Day just to avoid all the hassles.

If you have kids and the two of you don't get out of the house for nicer dinner/drinks often, I totally understand why people would want to do something for the holiday.
If you don't have kids and you go out for dinner/drinks all the time, I don't know why the holiday being spent out matters much at all. Especially on that specific day.

I don't get the Valentine's Day hassle. We go to my wife's favorite taqueria on v-day every year and then usually have a nice night out on the following Friday or Saturday. Easy as can be, no stress.
I assume a lot of the pressure comes from comparisons to other women and social media, but even when you factor that in I don't see the big deal. Honestly, is valentine's day even "cool" for women anymore? My wife would cringe out if I brought home red roses and a heart shaped box of something. To her and her friends it's the equivalent of a "gather" sign or a proposal on a jumbotron.

That's Impressive and the wines are outstanding - happy wife...
A long time ago I actually ran into Chef Philippe Parola on Mother's Day at an Albertson's buying french bread - he had run out at the old restaurant he had (closed)

I don’t know about the most, but cheating spouses do dumb stuff to get together on a contrived holiday and take risks they wouldn’t normally do. V Day is when a lot of them get caught.

So stop asking....and instead surprise her with an actual plan for something different.
--Do wine, cheese, and charcuterie at home (go to a decent wine shop and cheese store, all you will need to do is lay it out on a platter), then go out for a movie.
--Go to a theater event or musical performance: have a snack beforehand, go to the event, and then have a late night greasy breakfast somewhere.
What kind of 1950s world do you live in where the dude is obligated to do exactly what the wife wants on V-Day?

me and my wifes first date was at olive garden...I know I know so every Valentines day I place a take-out order from there and bring it home..honestly she prefers that to going out... She gets a meal she doesn't have to watch dishes to and stays comfortable all night... I sure as hell don't mind it

The first year was just filets, lobster tail, and lobster mashed potatoes with a bottle of Dom I forgot to chill so I've come a long way.

We never go out for Valentine's Day. It's a mess because there are so many people where that's the one time a year they go to a decent restaurant. The idea of having to make reservations to eat at 6 p.m. or at 10:30 p.m. doesn't appeal to me, neither does having the server rushing my arse out the door.
It's much easier to just go to a place like Maxwell's Market and get a couple of good steaks, a nice bottle or two of wine and a fancy dessert.

I don't disagree. Different strokes, I suppose. Most of the posters on this board eat and drink on average way above the regular person, as far as quality goes, and they could make a better date night dinner/drinks at home than any restaurant in town could.
But if that isn't the "norm" in someone's home, I suppose it makes sense they would want to be taken out instead of staying home and eating chicken.
