Dempsey's in Baton Rouge

I live on that side of town and we used to go quite often

It’s good but not consistent. Sometimes you will go and it’s amazing, sometimes it’s meh.

But usually pretty ok.

Live very close but hardly go.

Way better places to eat on this side of town.

Some of the items on the show aren’t on the menu.

Nothing special.

It's good BR food. Good poboys and you can do a half and half with gumbo which is a great lunch option. The specials that I've tried have been solid.

It's not gonna knock your socks off but you likely won't go away disappointed.

Get the Cup and a Half.

Big fan of their chicken fried steak special. Obviously gumbo is really solid for restaurant gumbo.

I just don’t get why so many people knock BR food. If you compare it to the rest of the country I’d argue it’s an underrated food city. The problem is it gets compared to one of the greatest food cities in the world 90 miles away.

Their stuffed fried shrimp are great. I also like their chicken and sausage gumbo. Daily lunch specials are good too -- especially their chicken fried steak.

these are better - maybe not ‘way’ better: Willie’s, Chimes East, Portobello’s

A lot of my neighbors might say Jasmine’s - but the few times I went it was meh - like a newer version of Dempsey’s

I always get the chicken and sausage gumbo with fried chicken bites and fried okra on the side. It’s always great. Also try the messy fries. Fries topped with fried shrimp, crawfish, jalapeños, all covered in Mornay sauce.

On a positive note, you can have a decent southern meal at Dempsey’s then walk next door and get a “massage”
