The French dip is on point.
Roast and gravy is slamming too.

I haven't been in years, but it was decent for the price 15 years ago. Seems to have changed a bit.

Willie’s
They don't season their food, usually it is cooked well just no flavor. I hate that place and only went because when I lived in Baton Rouge I would frequently be given their gift cards.

10 downvotes? I refuse to believe that people think Dempsey’s is that good. Because it’s not. It’s usually edible, but it’s not get your panties in a bunch and downvote a poster good.
The downvotes probably correlate more to the implication that the “better options on this side of town” occupy some vastly superior dining tier than to Dempsey’s itself.

New York pizza and pasta on jones creek
Most people pass it up bc it looks like an old drive thru. It’s a restaurant inside. The owner is always there and is super nice. Menu is Italian but has lots of great choices. They also have alcohol and TVs.
I would say NY pizza is better than bistro italia, but I would also say bistro is better than dempseys.
Rouls on O’Neal for better sandwiches/poboys/burgers and fries .
Food n Geaux on O’Neal is a gas station and has better fried fish than dempseys.
Homosake on Sherwood for sushi. They get in a whole, big fresh tuna every week. Their special with the wagyu and pork belly and tuna and foie gras was sooooo good.
Haven’t been to jazmines in a bit but it used to be better than dempseys. Not sure if it’s held up though.
Same with swaggat.
We live very close and I would rather visit all of the above (and more) before dempseys.

Little BTR restaurant lore for you............
The owner (Geroge Gugich) came up through George's Perkins road. Before he left he was Smokie's kitchen manager at the Perkins location at the same time Sammy Nagim (Sammy's) was bartending and "managing" the front.

And then Sammy and George (my dad) opened up Sammy's Southern Bistro together off Jones Creek. Had a really good thing going for a while before the expansion.

You think Willie's is better than Dempsey's?

it's an underrated gem. Best pizza in town imo, if you get a whole pie fresh from the oven

I’ve had some very unexciting meals at Dempsey’s - the one that was in prairieville years ago was more consistent.

I consider both to be on the same level: mediocre

To be honest, there is not a lot out there i would rate much better than acceptable

Know both you're dad and uncle. Bartended at that location for a while until I went to work for Smokie at Southside. Smokie did not like Sammy to say the least. That hate burned strong.

I worked with you at Southside. I cannot post here the phrase Smokie used when referring to Sammy. The hate was real.
