I had planned on leaving the voting open for a few days
I wouldn't do that...it just drags this out.
Everyone's dishes look really good. It is difficult for me because I hate mushrooms and I won't vote for my own so...
First - 4...I love a good burger and thought the peppermint bacon was a great idea
Second - 7...just because of skill level and creativity
Third - 3...I liked the peppermint rice idea as well as sweet potatoes
8 gets honorable mention, but I don't like that they used chicken as the main protein.

Although it did look delicious, I read each and every one of the descriptions and processes they listed.
This right here for #4 had my mouth watering as I was reading it. The candy covered bacon was a smart addition, but that wasn't what hooked me. I want to taste this right here:
quote:
I decided to make an imperial stout mushroom reduction. I chose to do so because the saltiness of the stock and mushrooms combined with the bitterness of the stout seemed that it would balance the sweet and smoky notes of the candied bacon. The shitakes were sliced and browned in butter. Beef stock and imperial stout were added in half cup increments until the stock was reduced enough to stick to the back of a spoon. The reduction was finished off with a few tablespoons of salted butter as do all my reductions.

The shitheads in my class are reading aloud and I'm following this thread and trying not to lose my shite. The indignation is cracking me up

The majority of the dishes look great.
4, 7, then 1.
I would kill that burger.

Yeah I didn't mean all of them.
Maybe 2 or 3.
Don't reveal or close the voting yet. Leave it for a day or two.

What about second and third?
Can you reveal who everyone's dishes are...I have my guesses but want to see how close I was.

I was thinking "man I didn't vote yet"
But the one I thought looked best won.
Congrats BT Coonhound.
I was too busy this week to do it, even though I have three of the four ingredients.

How long is voting open? These look really good, but I'm pretty hungover and my food judgment isn't the best today.
Edit: NM, appears I missed voting.

Just something to cut the chorizo with that wouldn't add much flavor. We actually ate the dish, and I didn't want to just eat a big piece of ground chorizo.

What? I didn't vote yet!
But I'll gladly take 4th place. When do we rehash all the things we considered and all the things that didn't work?

Now that it's over, a few comments :
The peppermint was a nice challenge. We were really surprised at how well it worked with actual peppers. As bold as the chorizo link was, eaten with the peppers it was a good balance. The ravioli were simple and tasty. The cream sauce should have been lighter IMHO. Next time, more in process pics.
Again, the entries all looked great, and I had fun.

Voting ended way too quickly.
Should have gone at least a day.
