That pizza looks like shite compared to nearly every other place he goes to.

That’s fine. Louisiana does other food well.

Hilarious. “When I think Baton Rouge…” and then rattles off 50% New Orleans related things. And he said poy-boy. Probably pissed because he left campus parties for nasty pizza.

Why take a man’s review so seriously? The dude goes to pizza places and tells you how he likes them. It doesn’t mean he’s the authority on pizza and his word is gospel. It’s just for entertainment.

it's very good. I don't know why these BR peeps don't have good pizza but we do.

Now, Tower of Pizza keeps coming up but I have never had a slice. I need to soon.

Zee's got a Portnoy 7.7, but think they were still out of a truck then.

Friend,

Tower of Pizza is the quintessential New Orleans pizza. If you do not like Tower, you do not like New Orleans pizza. Sure, Zee has a better pizza than Tower if you’re basing ranking solely on quality. But there is something more to Tower than simply quality. It exemplifies what a New Orleans pizza is. Sweet sauce, too much cheese, a hint of garlic, dough slightly undercooked and thicker than thin, but thinner than thick. It is reminiscent of Shakey’s.

Tower’s pizza does not travel well nor does its salad, which is drenched in oil yet is amazing. Both pizza and salad need to be eaten in its dim 70s dining room, which smells of mildew when the dew point is above 70 degrees. In the dry Autumnal days you will likely miss that classic smell. But it lurks waiting for the humidity to return.

Will you be impressed? I doubt it. But in 30 years, Tower will likely still be there while the guys from Zee’s will likely be on to bigger things elsewhere and their pizzas just a memory.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Huh? It might be one of the cheaper meals in BR

We go to the one on Perkins every couple of months and two slices, half order of knots, and two beers is under $20

Not sure how people can get mad about that review. I think it was pretty spot on. I don't hate S&G by any measure but you are nuts if you think it's high quality / artisan pizza.

The best pizza in Baton Rouge was that pizza truck with trailer driven by that guy Bogdan. He went on to open a place in NOLA then sold it. .

My point is that there should be no reason to listen to a guy who "reviews pizzas" when he gives a half frozen pizza the light of day.

You need to just sit the rest of this thread out.

Schlitz was only acceptable after 2 am. Is Dave supposed to know where the dough comes from at every place he goes? If the pizza taste better than the cardboard schlitz makes, it gets a better score

I lived at the condos across the street. I went once right before he got in the show and then a few weeks after.

Pizza was great both times and he actually remembered me from the first time I went (I was the only one there at 7 pm on a sat night).

He was definitely very humbled after the show.

His biggest problem was that location was a burial ground for restaurants for 2 decades. Nothing survived there before Jimmy John’s
