I decided to cook a pork but over night. I had my temp alarm next to me. I was supposed to take it out at 170 then wrap it and put it in until 190.
It went off at 6 that it was ready to take out at 170.
For some reason I just pulled it and forgot I was supposed to stick it back it.
Pork not tender enough to pull. FML.
That's what I get for trying to stay up and cook over night.

I put a smallish brisket flat into the pressure cooker & didn't weigh it.....decided by eyeball it was X lbs. Cooked it way-way-way too long, PC boiled nearly dry, resulting desiccated hunk of meat looked like an industrial accident. Took three days of scrubbing to get the PC pot clean again.

I started a chimney of charcoal and, in my drunken state, forgot I had. When I recalled I started it, went outside and found I'd also left it close enough to my Thermoworks meter, that the heat melted it. It sucks when you have to direct anger at yourself!

I've told this story before...but my ex MIL spent a bunch of time making a delicious fish chowder (halibut, clams, salmon, mussels, etc) only to pour egg nog into the pot instead of cream. Dumb old bird was three quarters into pouring that carton when she realized it wasn't cream.

Not me, but my brother's wife attempted Hamburger Helper right after they got married. He got home from work, walked in and said damn it smells good. She said thanks, I try. He walked over to the pot and there was a squared off pink loaf of ground meat floating in brown, seasoned water. (She obviously didn't understand what it meant to "brown" the meat). He said let me help you out, took the pot and dumped the whole thing in the ditch. LOL. She is a pretty good cook nowadays.

My sister did not know the difference between baking powder and baking soda. She made chocolate chip cookies with the wrong one. Instant hockey pucks- unbelievable how hard those things were and how bad they tasted

Just made one today - burnt roux.

Fell asleep once during a planned 48 hr smoke of a brisket. Woke up and realized my temp creeper up about 10 degrees hotter than it should have been and it cooked an extra hour. The bark was a little too black for my liking.

Made a big pot of crawfish étouffée. Left the big plastic spoon that I was stirring with sitting in the pot. Came back after not stirring for apparently too long and half of the spoon had melted in the pot. Had to toss the whole batch. Had like $40 of crawfish in there.

One New Years Eve 20+ years ago, I accidentally used cilantro instead of parsley in a Rueben dip.
I just went with it; nobody noticed as it was all gone at the end of the night.
Another time, I dipped my finger in some caramel sauce I had made to taste it because I was sure I had burned it. The sauce was fine but not my finger.
My finger looked like ET's for a few weeks.

I made some deviled eggs and put the salt, 1/2 tablespoon, meant for the egg boiling into the stuffing mixture. Epic brain fart, ruined.

In college we used to have big cookouts, everyone would bring stuff to grill. We all got too drunk and forgot we had stiff on the grill. (we had already had 1 or 2 rounds of food) Nobody realized it until we went to grill again a couole weeks later, it was pretty gross

Made spinach madeline for Christmas years ago and used sweetened condensed milk instead of evaporated canned milk. Spinach dessert isn't very good..

Blew a hole in my driveway with a chimney starter.

This is also on my list. Really gross stuff.
Another is this - we have a small oven bread bowl. Recipes are usually simple - beer, self rising flour, maybe something for flavor like cheese or herbs.
Hint - use self rising flour or else you get a nasty brick for bread.

Overlooked a lean rack of ribs in the oven. Managed to get about an ounce or two of meat.

I was cooking gravy steaks for the first time. My gravy was a little thin so I mixed some baking powder and water and poured it in the pot just like I remembered my mom doing. Talk about a bubbling mess, took me forever to clean than up and ruined my gravy steaks. I called her shortly after to confess and she explained she put corn starch, not baking powder. That was my first and last time making that mistake.

Once in my mid twenties and living in an apartment, I was cooking for myself on a Thursday night. Tuna helper was on the menu and just when I was almost done preparing it, I heard a knock at the door.
It was a couple of friends that wanted to go out to dinner. Not really thrilled to be eating tuna helper, I decided to go out to dinner with them. I put the pan of delicious tuna helper into the stove for it to keep while I was out and planned to toss it when I got back from dinner.
I totally forgot about it and left my apartment for the weekend the next morning. The smell that greeted me upon my return was what you would expect of 4 day old, unrefrigerated tuna helper.

I woke up at 3am to put a brisket on my Treager pellet smoker. Well I didn't wait long enough for it to light correctly before I put the meat on. I set the temp then went back to bed. I woke up 2 hours later and when I went to check on it the thermometer said 35 degrees! Just like the outside air temp!
I had to pull the grill apart to dig the pile of un burnt pellets out.
