Just started getting into drinking coffee and I'm looking to get a maker for the house. What kind should I get? Will probably need a grinder as well.

Whatever you do get one that stops brewing if you pull the pot off in the middle of the brew. I hate my coffee maker because it doesn't do this.

French press or Chemex

if you get a grinder, get a burr grinder, not blade

I like this thing. Makes about 10 cups and has a tap rather than having to pour.

I bought a Mr. Coffee coffee maker in 2002 when I went to college. I have had 3 other coffee makers in that time. That old Mr. Coffee still works. My wife finally gave up buying fancier ones and uses the Mr. Coffee.

Capresso makes a good coffee maker, and my Cuisinart burr grinder was fine. shite, I should give you mine. I quit drinking coffee some time ago and have no desire to resume.

Cuisinart DCC-3200 Perfect Temp 14-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker.

Never had a moment's trouble with it.

Buy Bonavita. They have them at sur la table or you can buy online. It's one of about 4-5 approved by the specialty coffee assoc. basically there are only a few that get the water to the proper temp before dispersing the water.

I have the bunn that is recommended, think it's the phase brew. It's nice, but the pot sucks (drips coffee from the spout) and it doesn't allow you to make big pots of coffee. Basically enough for 2-3 people one solid cup.

Would've bought the Bonavita, but they were on back order for 6 wks at the time. It's a better unit for basically the same price.

And I'd buy a French press.... Use mine when it's just me. That all being said, I grind my beans (cheap grinder) and use better coffee.
I like the cafeciteaux brand here in BR.

French Presses are great until they don't have an alarm clock that has coffee waiting for me at 4:30 in the morning.

I have a Technivorm with a stainless carafe. I love it. Very simple and makes an excellent pot of coffee.

I have tried all kinds of coffee makers from very cheap ones to very expensive ones...I keep coming back to the kind our grandparents used.
