First world problem, I like to buy the more expensive bacon sold in the big grocery stores, not boutique or special, but the bacon that comes in bricks and is thick cut.

My wife says there’s no difference and doesn’t understand why we have to buy bacon that’s 50% more expensive.

I was cooking the cheap bacon this morning for the kids and the shite sticks to the pan, curls up like crazy, and generally just let’s put a crap load of water, not grease when cooking. It tastes ok, but I hate it. Rant over

Wrights Brand Applewood smoked for the win, if you want something easily found.

We buy the good bacon too. The paper-thin bacon sucks.

I agree with this.

ETA once you start making your own, you'll never go back to store bought.

Wrights produces much of the bacon you find in the stores. They take the center cuts and package them under their label and then package the end pieces, which are usually thinner and fattier, under different labels. Those different labels are cheaper in price because grocers want to offer lower priced options.

The lesser quality bacon is generally always going to be those end cut pieces.

I like the hickory too.

Sometimes we can find Nueske’s and will get that as well.

Has to be thick cut bacon anymore though.

If they have a Costco near you, they have the 2 pack with each pack running 1 1/2 lbs. of this cut hickory smoked bacon.

That was my go-to for a long time until I started making my own with pork bellies. I haven't bought company made bacon in a couple years now and prefer to brine and smoke my own.

Curing and smoking bacon is really not that much work if you're set up properly. Cure, wrap, smoke and slice, not that much work for an excellent product.

I find that commercial bacon is not smoked long enough and lacking in flavor.

If you're going to go cheap. Might as well just buy the Hormel precooked bacon.

Thick cut is all I buy.

I hate the cheap bacon too, but it’s much easier and less of a mess to cook in the oven. It doesn’t curl up and I just throw away the foil I wrapped over a cookie sheet. You can still keep the bacon grease if you’d like.

Trader Joe's black forest bacon is my go to
Rouse's pecan smoked isn't bad either

Unfortunately my daughter doesn't like the thick bacon so have to keep some microwave Hormel on hand also

Exactly. Cheap, thin bacon for any type of wrap really. Thick good bacon for everything else, but wrapping with it sucks and you have to overcook the wrappie trying to get the bacon done..

I like the members mark restaurant quality bacon, comes in a white box, 10lbs I believe. it's like $4 per lb, it's a bit thicker than normal but not thick cut, imho much better quality than the cheap stuff but around the same price, we just split it up and freeze in ziplocs, 1lb per bag.
