Ceramic Grills: BGE, Komado Joe, etc...

In the next few months, looking to get one to replace the 3 grills/smokers i already have. I currently have the iron maiden, a custom built grill my dad made out of 1/4" to 1/2" pipe. Works perfectly for chicken. I also have a weber kettle grill that is on it's last leg. And my smoker is a cheap $100 Brinkmann electric smoker that's done it's job admirably over the years. So i'm looking to replace all 3 (not throwing out the iron maiden, saving that for big events) with 1 good ceramic smoker.
My brother-in-law has the large green egg and that thing is awesome. I'm simply amazed at how well it holds heat. So for now, a Large BGE is the front runner.

You're going to get a lot of differing opinions. Here's mine:
Any of the three listed are fine. I would go with the one that you can get the best price/deal (including stand/table and accessories).
Each have their own slight advantages, but at the end of the day, each of those three are great grills. Full disclosure, I have a BGE and love it.

I've got a Primo that I have used the hell out of for the last 5 years. Works great.
Only complaint is that the felt gasket will not hold up and needs to be changed periodically.

From what i'm reading, that seems to be the consensus for the BGE as well.
Kamado Joe is starting to tempt me with everything they include.
I'll probably go to shopper's choice some time this week and take a look at what they have and checks the weights/quality of each.

If I were looking, I would try to get the most sq. inches of cooking surface for the money....as in cost per sq. inch. I also lean towards buying American products where possible. HTH

Plenty of research on my part has revealed that any of these smokers will get the job done for you with extraordinary results. Advantage always tips to the oval shaped smokers when it's all said and done because of the space layout advantage. I actually own an original Komado, made in Japan in the 70's. It is very small but it turns out some of the best chicken I have ever cooked. Disclaimer, I also own WSM smoker and a large OK Joe offset, so depending on what I'm cooking will determine which tool gets used!

I don't know about them long term but I do know someone that has a new one and I was impressed with how hot that thing got quickly.
According to the thermometer, it was over 700 degrees.

One word of caution on all Kamado grills. The fire boxes are succeptable to cracking due to thermal expansion. I have a KJ and have gone through 3 fire boxes in 2 years. They just redesigned it and are sending me a new one. The good part is it's a lifetime warranty.

Pitboss from Costco. Bigger than an egg and half the cost

They're all good, I got the kamado joe, simply because it came with more accessories.

Had 3 : BGE, Kamado, & Primo XL
I cant speak to assessories, other than buying cast iron grates - i only use is deflector plates occassionally.
My preference is the Primo XL &ldue to oval shape. Allows for more versatility in cooking zones and holds more food, IMO. Thats what is at my house. Kamado at the camp and BGE to family members house.
For most things, they are very similar. BGE may hold temp jusr a tad longer, but I think I can get my Primo the hottest & can seperate firebox easily. Kamado somewhere in the middle.
Would rank them Primo XL, BGE, Kamado.
