I have the BGE and love it. Smoked a Boston Butt for over 16 hours and still had tons of coal left. But I'd imagine there isn't any real difference between the BGE and the KJ.

I got a LBGE last year and love it. I already had a nice smoker, but prefer the Egg for Chicken and Beef Ribs it will run better above 250 than my other smoker. As for grilling it is great for steak and we really like it for pizza so much better tasting as well as for you than delivery.

From what i'm reading, that seems to be the consensus for the BGE as well.

I had this problem with my BGE and had to change the gasket a couple of times in the first few years of ownership.

I realized that I didn't need to leave the top open when I was getting my fire going. I light the coals and get all vents wide open with the top closed. I haven't had to replace the gasket in years.

Have a large BGE and love it. We cook on it two or three times a week.

Everyone that uses their ceramic multiple times per week use a torch to get their lump started? I'm using up the Primo starters that came with it, and I'll prob buy a torch when they're done.

i've got a large bge and have had no problems. if i were buying a new one i'd really consider the primo xl due to it's size.

So i'm still torn after seeing the reviews from people here. Here is my take, correct me if i'm wrong.

Pro's

Big Green Egg - Holds temperature a little better than the others, but mostly negligable difference.
Kamado Joe - A bit cheaper and comes with more accessories. Be careful of the firewall cracking???
Primo - Better capacity for the price. Looking at pictures, it appears to be shallower than the BGE and KJ. If that's the case, wouldn't there be issues with it getting too hot for smoking applications? Or is this not really an issue?

I have a large BGE, and love it. We use the hell out of it. That being said, the new (2017) Big Joe from Kamado Joe has a lot of cool features, and like others have said come with a lot of included accessories.

Why a heat gun or Looflighter over a torch? I like at least having the ability to sear with torch.

I just ordered the looftlighter. It's just one less thing to buy a refill for. I've been grilling or smoking every weekend and a day or two during the week since the weather warmed up. Got tired of buying the little starter squares and lighters.

Not an issue once you learn how to control the temps.
