Thats beautiful, i gotta get me some of those peppers.

Right now im 35 and if anything, i digest better. I used Melindas creamy ghost pepper wing sauce on almost everything, and scorpion pepper wing sauce on chicien. I love those so much and use so much that id prob let it kill me before i stopped using them. My body is very used to it.

That said, this thread is nightmare fuel. Im seeing 50 a lot, so i really hope this isnt my fate. Spice adds so much flavor for no calories when done well. (I sometimes simmer my sauce with some butter to up the flavor though, try it with your favorite sauce).

I made two separate batches of homemade hot sauce this summer out of fresh peppers I grew, and some my coworker grew. That sauce doesn’t bother me too bad, but I saved the mash and top seared chicken with it and the seeds in the mash do damage. Worth it. This ristra is so flavorful, I plan on getting a few next time I go and possibly doing some sauces with one. I was told the peppers are grown in southern New Mexico, assembled on the twine, and then brought up to Santa Fe to sell, and they do that because land is too expensive in the Santa Fe area to grow peppers haha.

100%. My mom drank hot sauce when she was pregnant with me, and I’ve been a spice fiend my whole life.

I'm 36 and already deal with this. I used to be able to do spicy food challenges with no issue, and I still use very hot sauces on occasion. My wife and I will dice jalapenos into just about anything we cook. I still love the spice, but man does it hurt my stomach the next day. I'd still rather stomach cramps than bland food.

Pro tip for the others like me: metamucil will help pass those peppers through your system with less pain.

YES! I am disappointed in that because spice was nice. But feeling like shite after eating it is not fun. Also had to quit caffeine (coffee) recently and didn't realize how bad that was messing my stomach up. Getting old sucks!

No digestive reaction, but after I turned thirty I started reacting to, I guess, capsaicin.

Even mild peppers get me red and sweating now. Some sort of allergy I guess.

So I don’t eat much hot stuff in public.

I made some "viral" dumpling recipe that uses red curry paste, and HOLY CRAP. My stomach was in pain all night long.

The only thing that gets me is gochujang, and the superhot chiles. Ghost, X, reaper. Occasionally too much scorpion gets me.

For some reasom though, gochujang...which isn't even hot, sends my stomach into a twister.

I was starting to have this problem. Tried fighting it with Pepcid with mixed results. I then cut out all carbonated beverages except sparkling water and the indigestion from the spicy foods cleared up and never returned. Was probably drinking more Coca-cola than I realized. Lost a good bit of weight as a bonus.

I started to develop this problem in my early 60s. If I ate anything spicy I was up for hours battling indigestion. Upon doing some research I discovered as we age our digestive system produces fewer digestive enzymes, and less nitric oxide (essential for proper digestion). So I went on and ordered a bottle of "Digestive Enzymes" and a bottle of Nitric Oxide. Both in tablet form. It works! Now I can eat all things spicy, take my supplements after I eat, and zero indigestion issues. The supplements take about 30 minutes to work, and then I can go to bed safely. YMMV

I'm a bit of a pepperhead and can stand some serious hot sauces since I make my own out of habanero, ghost, Butch-T Trinidad Scorpions, etc.

The thing that gives me the most digestive issues is one of the things I like best. I do a few crawfish boils a year and love to suck the heads as I eat the tail meat and it's not so much the pepper spice as I believe it is the amount of salt in the juice from the heads.

I've had to taper off a good bit from sucking the heads since it will run through me like a hot knife through butter----------and it's not pretty.

For me it started in the mid to late 30's. Always loved spicy foods. My a-hole begs to differ though. Interesting enough how "hot" the spicy is at my mouth doesn't always match the exit spice and doesn't always trigger. Sometimes I will eat something really hot and no effect. Sometimes I will eat something very mildly spicy and it burns coming out more than coming in. I could probably sit down and figure out exactly what spice sets me off but I've been too lazy. I do think cayenne seems to effect me more than a habanero or jalapeno, or whatever Koreans use.

I don't suffer from this, I just don't have the desire for super-spicy foods anymore. I'd much rather taste the actual food and have the heat enhance the flavor(s) as opposed to having the heat be the dominant factor. And to your point, overly spicy food will give me miserable heartburn. It wasn't always like that.

It tears me up, but I'm a junkie for spicy food. There's an endorphin rush or something to it. My colon will break the sound barrier and I'll writhing in pain from Johnny Cash'in it on the toilet, but hey, you only live once.

I'm 75 and spicy food is my weakness, I love it, if I'm not pounding the table and crying, it's not hot enough. But, my limits are tempering, I used to go in Indian restaurants and ask for "Mumbai" style, the hottest vindaloo they make. I've had to back off after a spontaneous combustion incident in my Depends.

Try lowering the scale down a bit and finding a happy place.
