My wife and I will be in New Orleans for one night in March, and I'm thinking about making reservations at one of those two places. I'm a native of New Orleans, but I've lived in Los Angeles for 25 years and have never eaten at either place. I had reservations at Brigtsen's once for a planned trip in August of 2005, but Katrina took care of that.

Anyway, I know it may be an apples to oranges comparison, but if you had to pick one place for one meal, which would you choose?

TIA

I have eaten at both and yes they are different.
GW Fins is a big place. It is very nice inside. The service is impeccable. It is in the Quarter.

Brigtsen's is cramped because it is an old house. But the service is great too. It is off River Road near Uptown.

That being said, I would go with Brigtsen's.

Can’t go wrong with either but i’d go with Brigtsen’s.

I haven't been to GW Fins, but I love Brigtsen's and have been on multiple occasions.

Two of my favorites. You can't go wrong either way. If I had to pick one I would pick G.W. Fins just because I like that style of seafood.

I love both but Brigtsens with that oyster chowder with bacon is a big winner. The rabbit paneed is great too.

Brightsen's gulf fish Amendine is the best dish I have eaten thus far in 2018

took some out of towner's there 2 weekends ago and they loved everything. You wont have to deal with the Quarter either

If you go to Brigtsen's when the chef is doing some crawfish specials, you're in for some hard choices.

Different experience, different menu. Ifyou want the standard seafood resturant type menu with excellent quality in the quarter GW is the place, If you want a different culinary experience and quirky close quarters atmosphere Brigtsens is the deal. He does things you won't find many places and changes his menu. I can get GW Fins type dishes here in Lft but certainly cannot get Brigtsens duplicated anywhere but you have to be a little more out of the box there willing to experience that type food.

Bottom line, Brigtsens if you can do only a one shot deal no question about it.

Brigtsen's is the most over rated place in the city. It's almost laughable.

GW Fins is a the clear winner between these two, imho.

Brigtsen’s by a long way. I’ve personally never thought much of Fins to be honest.

ETA: after looking at the responses I can't believe it. GW Fins is the clear answer and it's not even a debate. There are three better options within walking distance from Brigsten's

Lol. While I do think Brigsten’s is overrated, it’s a lot better than Fins. I can’t think of a more average place than Fins. I do not get the love at all and I’ve been there several times.

Although not a huge fan, I do like Fins. I have been to Brigtsens probably 25 or 30 times over the years and it's also terrible. And I do mean terrible. Sometimes reading some things on this board about the place I wonder if I'm going to the right restaurant

I don't think I could eat at a terrible restaurant that many times! Pray tell, however did you handle it?
