It's been open a long time and I'm not always the one picking places to eat. As evidenced by this thread a lot of clients think this place is a hidden gem.

Oh give me a break. Of all the over rated tourist traps you pick them? LOL
Hell, they aren't even the most over rated place in their neighborhood. That award goes to Jacque Imos or however you spell it

But what on earth did you eat all of those times since the food is so terrible?

GW Fins was really set up to be a scalable, seafood replication of what Ruth’s Chris did to steaks is the story always told. While it is by no means a bad restaurant, I think there are better seafood focused spots in town. With that said, Brigtsen’s has a down home charm and really representative food. Personally, while I think both restaurants may be a bit dated, Brigtsen’s has aged very well into a well regarded local classic, while I think GW is more of a forgotten entity.

I think so. My wife refuses to go there. I haven't been in a few months but will go with friends/clients if they choose that option. I can't remember a meal there that I have enjoyed.

Thanks everybody. Brigtsen's was the overwhelming choice, so Brigtsen's it is. I'll let you know how we liked it.

You're wife may divorce you
Just kidding! Have a good time in the city and hopefully you find a better restaurant before you leave (it won't be hard).

GW Fins is the best traditional seafood house in the city. Nothing else is even close as far as selection of quality fresh fish.

I think GW Fins is great and a better restaurant overall than Brigtsen’s (even though they are very different). But Brigtsen’s is a much more New Orleans restaurant plus Frank Brigtsen is a great guy. So if you haven’t been here in 25 years the answer is easy.

Agreed.
GW Fins is a dated restaurant to me.

what have you had 30x over that is terrible at brigtsens?

Dude, I can't remember what I ate there over the last 25 years
I know that I do not care for the shrimp bisque. I haven't had a fish dish there that I have enjoyed. The last time I was there, I ordered the steak and it was not good. I have never ordered the rabbit or duck because I am not a fan of either. I understand that a lot of people enjoy it but I dont get it and don't think that it's even close to being considered on of the best places in town. It's not in my top 500.

So basically you are just trolling
Who doesn’t remember terrible meals

Call it what you want but I just told you. I think the bisque is awful. Every fish dish I have had there has been terrible and the steak on my last visit was almost not edible.
I first dined there in 1994 and I can not remember a meal that I have enjoyed there.

You’ve probably scorched your tastebuds on your microwaved Hot Pockets.

What restaurants do you enjoy and, particularly, the ones you recommend within walking distance from Brigtsen’s?
