Shock of the century in this post from Gaby - Sohla not seeming to be the victim she claimed to be.
Shocker...not.
She sucked and will always suck. It’s a shame the other, “evil” while people bent over backwards for her (because it’s the world we live in today)

Which is why I quit watching babish.
Andrew is enjoying the smell of his own farts a bit too much.

The change of heart towards Sohla on the BA subreddit is freakin hilarious, but of course this isn’t a lesson learned for them. Rather than realize, “Hey, maybe we should closer inspect racism claims as they occur so that we don’t hurt the cause”, they’re just ignoring the harm she did for racial equality.

i did finish the interview
this is the crucial section
it shows that she's an absolute idiot when it comes to actually running a business, but also, that she is "not one to stay quiet and eat her words if she sees something wrong." the problem is that she's shown to be ignorant to basic concepts relating to business, which will create a scenario where she sees a lot of stuff as "wrong" (b/c she sees things in an idealist-ignorant lens)
leading to this perfect example of the simpsons "out of touch" meme
and then she quadruples down
quote:
The idea made them queasy, so they decided to take a chance on themselves and open a neo-diner in Greenpoint. They called it Hail Mary. They’d make the food they wanted to eat — fried chicken, koshari, burgers — the way they wanted to make it, with care. They offered triple-fried potatoes that took a full-time worker an entire 12-hour shift to prepare. They paid the dishwasher a living wage. It was wild and utterly impractical. The restaurant lasted about a year, which was pretty good considering they started off with enough money to keep them afloat for two months. Throughout, they maintained a monkish humility. “A lot of people complained, “Why is this burger $15?” she remembers. “But it’s grass-fed meat that’s ground every single day with homemade American cheese, homemade bread, homemade pickles. And that is really stupid, because no one can tell those things. We didn’t put it on the menu because we were like, ‘The food is going to speak for itself.’ And it really, really doesn’t.”
After the restaurant folded, El-Waylly made her way into food media — first at Serious Eats, where she quit after about a year (“They kind of treated me like a maid”), and then at Bon Appétit in 2019. The eventual Test Kitchen implosion was unavoidable. “Sohla’s never changed,” says Ham. “She’s not one to stay quiet and eat her words if she sees something wrong.”

Spot on. She claimed racism when her restaurant failed. She unsuccessfully claimed racism when leaving Serious Eats. She claimed racism at Bon Appetit.
If this chick ever experiences actual racism, nobody is going to believe her.
Totally. She's like my friend who was telling me that her old employer gave preferential treatment to the men. When I asked how, she said they were sent to conferences in Vegas and allowed to work from home. Turns out, they were in senior level sales and the women were admin assistants.
A disturbing number of people seem to think all businesses have rooms full of money and no overhead and just pay their employees pennies for funsies.
Babish will be next if she feels she is wronged in any way.

He's got two of them actually, but it's usually only his Collie, Monty, that goes with him. He'll occasionally bring along his other dog Ruger.

i watched this HILARIOUS discussion on a commie FB page this morning with this sort of ignorance.
they were all mad b/c the meal delivery services started charging fees in areas with higher regulatory oversight and were bitching about how they're so greedy and terrible. they even had one thread where a person was like "we should juts not use them" with an uproar of people showing exactly why these services have value (explaining why THEY need it, etc.)
if you posted an article showing that these "greedy" services are losing money, they'd fricking ERUPT
probably would blame "CEO pay" or something. they're just literally ignorant and have no idea that it's expensive
i run a super lean business and it's still $2.5-3k/month in expenses off the top.

People are so collectively stupid it hurts.
I want to say when the Bon Appetit drama went down, someone posted that they have operated at a loss for a few years in a row now.
During early Covid, all nonessential stores closed down, Sephora being one of them. They were shut down for a full two weeks and still paying the employees when on week 3, they had a conference call where they furloughed all their store employees and said they were giving them one more week of pay. So three solid weeks of being paid to stay home.
The internet exploded at how "greedy" this was of Sephora to do and how they should "just liquidate".
Because there's other companies to sell shelving and product to in the middle of a fricking pandemic lockdown.

General liability, workers comp and any other required insurance, permits, licenses, 940-941 taxes, fuel, utilities, rent/mortgage, advertising expenses, professional expenses (legal-accounting etc...) local, state, federal income tax, vehicles, fuel,
shite I’m tired of typing.
Add a dozen more expenses that the average non business owner has no clue about. But hey I’m a different color/gender so I deserve as much money as the dumb white guy that has been doing this a decade longer than me.
I read or listen to some people and feel like I have to go shower the stupid off me.

The BA Test Kitchen has managed to bring down another darling internet media provider. The Reply All podcast was doing a 4-part expose on the Test Kitchen, but then Gimlet employees accused two of the hosts of being anti-woke. Gimlet Media is company that produces Reply All, which is itself owned by Spotify. The two hosts have now resigned and the podcast is on hold. I guess this is a classic example of "get woke, go broke."

However, on Wednesday night, Vogt tweeted out an apology with the announcement that he was temporarily stepping back from the show. “I deeply failed as an ally during the unionization era at Gimlet,” he wrote. “I did not intend to stop the unionization effort, and I am very glad it succeeded … I’m not done working, but I don’t think anyone needs me taking up space right now.” Pinnamaneni also posted an apology of her own.

I'd say it takes balls to admit wrong and publicly apologize for it. But maybe I was raised differently. The accusations made against PJ and Sruthi by the Gimlet employee were pretty messed up.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
It makes me so happy when they eat their own. When you perpetuate a cancel culture that is relentless and unwavering in forgiving the slightest perceived deviation from an unrealistic purity standard, all you are ultimately doing is signing your own death warrant.
