I'm out in texas and would like to boil my own crawfish but cant deal with a 30-40ld sack. We might eat 10 at most in a single meal.

I COULD boil all 40lbs and freeze the peeled 30lbs but I would get lots of hate form the full peelers. :)

No one around here will sell partial bags of crawfish. The crawfish places here are OK but they don't cook them like I like them.

Aside from invites :) any recommendations on what to do in this situation?

(1) learn to eat more
(2) make more friends
(3) find someone who sells half sacks
(4) buy them boiled and deal with it
(5) learn to like cold crawfish

I see no other options

Just get the whole sack and invite a few people over.
It doesn't seem worth it for the seller or you to deal with a half a sack.

Eat until full and peel the rest. Tons of options. We made a savory king cake today with some crawfish stuffing or something. So good.

(1) buy full sack
(2) invite friends (unless you 6th&B...because you have no fkn friends)
(3) boil full sack
(4) eat till you can't breathe
(5) peel and vacuum pack tails
(6) profit

It’s not uncommon around my house to boil a 32 to 38 pound sack of crawfish just for my wife and I. I don’t even take the shells off after I remove the tails from the head. I throw 2-3 pounds into a vacuum seal bag and use them for other crawfish dishes and take the shells off then. I love to have left over boiled tails in the freezer for future meals.

Damn dude, what did I do to you? Why would you say I don’t have friends when you don’t even know me? For real, what your problem here?

You can put leftovers in a tray and refrigerate them. Eat later. Cover the trays in foil so the juice is retained.

Fiesta will (if you live near one). Quality isn't amazing always but sometimes you take what you can get.

Next day crawfish out the fridge is good. I usually eat them again the next day and peel the remaining crawfish tails at that time.

Eat what you can that 1st go around. Put remainder in fridge. Every day thereafter, eat 10lbs of cold crawfish. My favorite method - Id rather eat them cold anyway.

For the time/effort/cost/prep involved to boil a half sack (unless you have a semi-permanent boil setup) I would just by from the store.

I guess its different for some folks but I need to do at least two batches to justify dragging the equipment out of the shed and prepping everything. Occasionally I will get one large sack and boil in two smaller batches.

This but they do escalate the price quite a bit.

Like others have said. Eat what you want and pick the rest for later use.

I do this with at least two 40 lb. sacks a year to have boiled crawfish tail meat in my freezer to make things like crawfish pies, crawfish fettuccini, crawfish bisque, crawfish etouffee, etc.

They don't go to waste.

Hell, check out the video for "After The Boil Soup" by the Cajun Ninja and follow it for a hell of a meal that uses much of what is left over from a good crawfish boil.

They either don't at all, or it's very marginal...at least in my area.

What area of Texas? If I am not mistaken Cajun Crawfish Company will sell half sacks.

Otherwise boils a full and save the rest.

Also, invite me and I will come help you eat them.

The one in my area is usually 40-50% more a pound.
