There was a thread a while back discussing rumors that Bistro Byronz on Government Street in BR was closing. That news came as quite a shock to many as that restaurant was much beloved and always seemed packed to the gills every night (and was louder inside than a playoff game in the Superdome).

Turns out, rumors of their demise have been somewhat exaggerated. The government street Byronz will be moving into the space formerly known as White Star Market (i.e. the only location louder than their current spot).

What is the reason for leaving their current location?

I really hate parking around white star and soji. Not that it was great around the current location.

Says the new location won't be open until maybe the end of Q2 (so call it July 1).

Seems an awfully long time between closing this location and opening a new one just a 1/2 mile down the street.

Probably getting better rent terms from building owner is my guess.

I’m hoping it’s curry n kabob, Omi, or a viet place.

Govt street/mid city seems to be lacking in non-Mediterranean or American-Chinese offerings outside of Soji.

Probably a Jay ducote bbq joint, called Gov't bbq and all the dishes are going to be government bbq puns

If what someone speculated is true and that they’re moving due to leasing rates, I doubt the above will happen

I just do not see the move being positive. The building isn’t bistro-esque and parking deters me from going.

But their current location is wonderful for parking either, so maybe the number of parking spots are similar?

Let’s see if they prove me wrong. Hoping for the best for them.

I like the current location, better than old Byrons.
Of course, I used to like the old Ruby’s before it move to where Tai kitchen is now located..

2 of my dogs died in the kitchen there.

Apparently some don’t realize the building was previously Dr. Tim Armstrong’s veterinary clinic of which he put down two of my labs.

I wish Red Zeppelin would open a second location there and put Fleur De Lis to bed.

The spot is too good to pass up so hopefully we get something good for the area.

Plus they gain some extra outside space - some covered and some not covered.

That could be good, anything is better than the sugar sauce at Monjunis which is our only nearby option. Anthony’s is right there but they have their niche and serve it well.

I also wouldn’t mind a strong seafood/oyster bar concept but we all know how those turnout with vinyl table coverings and red plastic Coke cups.
