Heading to Biloxi with the wife, for the first time. Any recs for local places to eat or are the Beau restaurants the best. Staying at either the White House or the Beau.
Thanks

Go over to Government Street Grocery in Ocean Springs. It's kind of like Chelsea's in Baton Rouge, but better -- real good burgers and beer selection.

Mary Mahoney's is a landmark in downtown Biloxi. Have a few cocktails and get an order of marinated crab claws. Oh and check out the men's room. They put ice in the urinals.

The Blow Fly Inn is a good place in Gulfport. It's on the water. Price wise, it's in between Mary Mahoney's and Government Street Grocery.

I lived in Biloxi for 5 years before Katrina, but I haven't eaten at any of the Beau restaurants since the storm. I know they really jacked up the prices at what used to be the brew pub -- we were thinking about eating there, but it was like $14 for a burger and fries. Ended up going somewhere else.

Project Lounge steak sandwich. Bring cash.

For a serious rec, I like Salute in Gulfport for Italian.

Half Shell is pretty good but the oysters run on the small side. If you like eating royal reds I'd highly recommend Steamers near the Island View in Gulfport. Very good for the portion and price. The house salad their is also to die for!

Half shell is near beau

Corks and cleaver in Gulfport is good

The blind tiger just opened on beach in Biloxi by Margaritaville.

Downtown ocean springs has lots of good options. Charred is probably best. Murky waters BBQ is best BBQ on coast.

Half shell and Mary mahoneys are both very very good.

Stayed at beau 2 weeks ago. Buffet is pretty good. Stall
A (their Italian place) was ok but overpriced. Steakhouse there is good but expensive.

Shaggys is a good casual seafood place

Mary Mahoney's - It's a land mark. Great drinks and good food, lots of cool history on the walls.

Half Shell - hard to beat for the price - the Biloxi location is a little cooler building/atmosphere to me

Rack House - new steak house that just opened in downtown GPT. Pretty good steaks, huge bourbon selection and cool building decorated with bourbon barrels and a good bit of wine

Ajax - on the beach in GPT. Casual seafood and fun atmosphere

Shaggy's - beach bar with ok food, but always a good time

The Blind Tiger- see above for Shaggy's, but a little better food

Tien - at the IP is a good Asian fusion restaurant with most Asian styles

Heard good things about Corks & Cleaver, but haven't tried it yet. If you are enjoying the drive West down hwy 90, Bacchus on the Beach in the Pass is great (plus the original Shaggy's is there) and several great beach bars in BSL if you make it that far.

If you're looking for casual spots, The Fillin Station is in downtown Biloxi. My one complaint is that half of the place is a bar and allows smoking. If you can get past that it's got good food and isn't always overrun with people.

I tend to eat in the area from BSL to Long Beach but Govt. Street Grocery in OS is on my list to try.

Holy crap there are some terrible suggestions...
Half shell, salute....
half shell taste like Sysco, salute is not very good Italian.

Go to ocean springs or go the the pass/ Bay Area. Drive the beach...
Bay/pass, do trapanis or sycamore house.
Prime or Jia in the beau.
Coras in the White House wasn't bad at all when we stayed there for the marathon. Good hangar steak.
Ocean springs, all good little joints over there. From pizza to Mediterranean.
Gulfport has the BBQ joint downtown and Tonys pizza.

Personally, other than for nostalgia stay away from Mary mahoneys. The food was meh at best the last 2 times I've been. And ol boy can be a tad over bearing and will take over a room.

Gaston generally stays on top of things there. I go once a month to visit the MIL. The wife is from the bay.

I've only been to Half Shell once, but it was excellent. I highly recommend it.

Agreed on this

I wouldn't say that. I have had some really good meals and some decent meals there. Always a fun time though.

I definitely prefer the Bay to all other areas, but it's a little far for someone staying in Biloxi.

I don't doubt that. I have only had fish tacos from there and they were great. Only place I get crawfish around here is Taranto's or Clawdaddy's to go.

Half Shell serves the smallest oyster ive ever had. And their name is Half Shell

Mahoney's is a cool restaurant with the history and whatnot. The food is good if you like fried and/or covered in rich, heavy sauces.

BR Prime, Jia, and Stalla are probably the best high end restaurants in Biloxi. They are costly, though.

For coffee and a sammich, check out The Grind Coffee and Nosh. Simple food, well executed.

Great breakfast menu too (cinnamon rolls are superb).

That's my place.
Decent pizzas there too.... no liquor though...

Half shell is shite. Ate there once and was supposed to have lump crab on the dish and I'm about 95% sure it was sheepshead. The waitress's face dropped when I asked if that's what it was.

You can get decent meals at bacchus too. Don't mind sitting on the deck in the pass and knocking a couple back.

The place at the White House was pretty good. Now that was back in December and that's my only experience there...
