His "spin" of Cajun food is well...... bad. His "thing" is he doesn't fry anything. Tried it on numerous occasions and couldn't getting into it.

I can't bring myself to order any Cajun dishes at Darwell's. The etoufee looks weird. When I walk up and smell the smoker in the parking lot it makes it hard for me to pass up the pulled pork and the baked beans. I really like their potato salad too and I rarely like it in restaurants.

Do yourself a favor and go buy a couple of the French Cold Cut banh mi from Le Bakery. It's close and very good.

I need to try this! I've heard good things about Le Bakery.

We moved to this area from Baton Rouge and I agree with you. I did enjoy the bread at Mary Mahoney's.

Thing is they have one dish I love, the flounder imperial, outside of that I would agree 100%, other than the bread pudding. My wife loves the joint (We went decades ago while poor and dating) so it is still in our rotation, dont go as often anymore as the food it is not what it once was.

is the pool not open?

the bar at Mary Mahoney's is open during lunch. It's got a cool, old timey feel to it.
