think the owner had family issues that forced him to move
The owner actually took a job over seas so he closed it down. I think he had planned to reopen it when he got back but that never happened. He lives in Texas now

I'm glad Zorba's is back, but I don't care for its present location. I liked the original (where Louisiana lagniappe is now) better.

It was actually originally where Nino's is. I agree about the present location.

Anyone remember Pave? I had soft shell crab there once.

Bamboo Garden has awesome Kung Pao shrimp. Miss that place.

I wanna say Lobdell. I was new to the area at the time and this was back just under 20 years ago.

Family Pizza Lover
Around 95, in the shopping center at the corner of Lee and Nicholson. The owner was the only person that worked there. A really nice Middle Easter fellow that would prep, cook, and then deliver each order himself. He had an answering machine to leave your order on if he was out on delivery. He'd get back and call you up and ask if you still wanted your order. I remember a large pizza with a ton of toppings being around 5 bucks apiece delivered.

Didn't WAFB's Paul Gates own the Blimpie's location on O'Neal Lane at one time or another?
Paul told me that the franchise agreement was brutal. Had to buy their products which were vastly overpriced for what he could get on the market. They they realized that no matter how hard they worked it would never be profitable.

The Las Palmas did well there. They closed this location in favor of the Coursey one and that was a mistake.

The Austalian place off of coursey probably deserves a mention
Dingo's...Yeah, that place went down fast. The Aussie guy that owned it opened up Dingo's again shortly after in the Southern Oaks Athletic Club, formerly Shenandoah CC, and that was short lived also.
Someone told me a good while back that Ouncy (Uncle O's) might be opening something in Southern Oaks. Don't know if that ever happened.
Wasn't George's on G O'Neal called Prytania's(sp) before Smokie took over?
Mia Tavola on Coursey was short lived before Louis turned it into a regular DeAngelo's.
Mirror Steak House and LaFonda's never could duplicate the good business at their original locations when they moved.

Before there was an IHOP at the location, there was an Applebee's on College Drive and Rabey. Couldn't have lasted more than a year or so.
There was also a sushi and Japanese restaurant on Bennington. Kamado's? Walked in there about 9PM on a Saturday night and was seated near the wide open door to the kitchen, where they were hosing out the kitchen floor.
China Garden was a decent Chinese buffet in a shopping center on Jefferson Highway. The owners were a really nice Chinese couple that moved to Los Angeles to open a hotel. They left the restaurant to fend for itself and it went into a nosedive.

That's still open, isn't it?

I think it reopened as a sushi buffet.

I remember when the Sizzler was there.

Off topic, but down Bennington where the Hustler Club is, wasn't that called Scarlet O's and the club across the street called Rhett Butler's.. or vice versa?

I know this was a chain and they all went under, but does anyone remember Po' Folks? Early 80's close to Bon Marche. I think it was owned by or the spokesman was a country singer, Bill Anderson - I remember the commercials. It was like a poor man's Cracker Barrel if you can imagine that. Went there with my mom when they first opened and one of us ordered gumbo and it was Campbell's tomato soup with dehydrated shrimp in it. We didn't go back.
