Cakes and I are having people over Saturday for some football and wood fired pizzas on the GMG. I'm way too lazy to make homemade dough and sauce, so was curious what the FDB had to say about store bought dough and sauce.

I would be willing to jazz up either the dough or sauce with extra spices and stuff, but I'm not making enough for 10 pizzas from scratch.

Have access to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Jewel...lots of options.

What ya got?

Have heard the Trader Joes pizza dough is the way to go. Not sure about sauce, interested to see opinions on that since it varies whether you like a sweet red sauce or not.

I do, I prefer sweet and a little tangy.

And I do believe I've heard about the Trader Joe's stuff before. Wouldn't surprise me if that ends up being the most suggested.

Not sure about sauce, but I actually like the dough from Whole Foods.

Not saying it's going to blow anyone's mind, but it's pretty solid.

I prefer a plain, straight tomato sauce for pizza, so no jazzing up is needed. Puree a can of whole peeled tomatoes (like Cento) and add a dash of salt. Voila. Let the other toppings carry the day.

If you're completely pressed for time, the Newman's own marinara in a jar is a light, fresh tasting sauce that's bright....not overly salty or seasoned.

Can't recommend a storebought dough bc pizza dough is quite possibly the easiest bread product to mix at home. It's better if made in advance by several days & flour/yeast/salt are dirt cheap.

OP: "I don't really feel like making dough or sauce, can someone recommend some store bought options?"

hungryone: "Making sauce and dough is easy and here's how!"

Whole Foods then Trader Joe’s. Or do both and do a taste test. Other option is go to your favorite pizza place and buy just the dough balls.

You just blew my mind. I didn't even know that was an option.

Call your local pizza shop. They will often sell you dough and sauce

Trader Joe's dough is legit. We use it all the time. It's better than any homemade dough I've done, though I'm not a real accomplished pastry cook so there's that.

Rao's is good sauce, but at $5 a jar I've found several of the less expensive ones good as well. My kids like the Classico brand. It's a little on the sweeter side. Rao's makes two different kinds of pizza sauce - one is just pizza sauce, one is margherita. The Margherita one is really oily. A little goes a long way.

Best cheese I've found if the Sargento Whole Milk mozzarella and provolone. Trader Joe's also had good mozzarella.

Thanks man

My buddy, who does make his own dough and sauce, is adamant that whole milk mozzarella is used. So I will certainly be getting that.

This is what we do for dough. Cost less than/equal to store bought dough and is immensely better

I’ve always used the dough ball at Publix with great success. Got their pre rolled dough last time and enjoyed it as well. Might need to try the Trader Joe’s version next since they are closer to my house than Publix is

If you live in a town that has Publix, then that's the play.

In order:

1. Whole Foods
2. Trader Joe’s
3. Publix

I have used all three. Publix is what I use the most as it’s the cheapest and closest to the house.

Some pizza places sell dough, and others do not.
