Based on the Cotton thread, I would like to try an experiment.
I'm wondering Food Board's nominees for greatest LA restaurant. Fancy or a dive, if you have to choose just one place to eat, which place is "the one?"
Reply just with your nomination, and we'll judge based on upvotes-downvotes
Edit: No surprises so far. Keep 'em coming

I keep hearing great things about August. Need to check it out sometime. I've tried twice, but only tried for a reservation a week in advance, and clearly that isn't enough time

I haven't eaten at every restaurant in LA, so I wouldn't know.

What gris said. But in terms of price, type of cuisine, and consistency, I'd go with Mariza's in New Orleans.

Just plan to show up around 5 pm to sit in the bar area. Worked great for me a few years ago, so not sure if there's been a recent spike in demand.

The one you personally enjoy the most! Be it atmoshere, service of food.... that's what makes the best restaurant for everyone!

My favorite is La Provence.

Come on, that's not in the spirit of how this works. Post the place that you've been to that you think is the best. I want to see your answer.

When was the last time that you had dinner there? I'm interested because I know the chef who helped put them on the map had left last year and I haven't heard much about the place lately.
I go there once a month for lunch and it is ok, but I know the dinner is a different experience.

False. You're confusing "best" with "favorite".
I would say August or Shaya.

If forced to choose just one, I'd have to go with Commanders.

Don't get around to as many as I'd like anymore, but I have really enjoyed my visits to Peche
