Chef Ron’s is too thin and light colored
Try The Store or Mr B’s.

As others have said. Mr. B's gets my vote.
IMO, one of the top five or ten restaurants in NO. Very good food and very consistent service. Never had anything that wasn't first rate.

Herbsaint
Used to work across Poydras St. from Lafayette Square (near there)...
Never as impressed as the Herbsaint reputation. Ate there more than 5-times. Perhaps I am just unlucky.

Mr B’s Is what others need to strive for. I have tweaked my own gumbo recipe to get as close as I can to theirs.

Station 6 in Metairie east is pretty damn good.

I find it odd that this board is obsessed with thick, stew consistency gumbo. Growing up in the Lake Charles and Lafayette areas thinner gumbos were the norm with all the families I knew.

Stanley on Jackson Square. Haven't had it in a couple years but they have the best gumbo I've had in a restaurant by a wide margin

Uh, the correct answer is The Catch in Metairie.
Shrimp, crawfish, lump crab meat, and three large oysters for an extra $3. My favorite gumbo.
