I used to love that place long ago. Went by there months ago and they were serving to-go beers with no inside seating. Found another place that wanted our business.

Yeah, 10 years ago it was awesome. She'd get all sorts of shite in there that no one else had. She was always a little cookoo, but decent enough to me when I was there. Maybe the "fame" went to her head or something.

She has always been incredibly nice to me, but it's no longer a place I go out of my way to patronize.

Exactly. Loved it ten years ago. They just got passed up.

She can blame herself. Last time I was thereseveral months ago it was so depressing. I know the circumstances suck but she went out of her way to make it an oppressively dismal experience. Only a handful of beers, no upstairs seating, plastic barriers everywhere. it felt like drinking in a nursing home or a bus stop or something. People were walking in, scoping it out, and leaving immediately. No one wants to hang out in a place like that. Plenty of other places have managed to balance Covid and pleasing your patrons.

She deserves what she gets. She wanted to handle things like the mayor handled things dealing with COVID. Now she is getting handled and she doesn't like it.

I won’t speak ill of Polly, because she bought 120 boxes of Girl Scout cookies from my daughter for a pairing event years ago.

But I haven’t been there in years, and any trips to New Orleans for beer revolve around the local breweries. Those places all managed to adapt and overcome over the last 18 months.

It could be because Avenue Pub in Orange Beach Alabama is wide arse open with no restrictions or Government over reach.

She’s always been very nice to me. And she does still get a lot of stuff that nobody else gets (see the sours this coming weekend), but it’s not stuff the broader craft beer fans go crazy for these days.

The Pub is a classic example of not knowing how to adjust to the times. Some businesses just aren’t meant to last forever.

haven't been since Zwanzee Day 2018, that experience was miserable

Zwanze day is this weekend.

Sad driving by at 4am and they are closed, but Igors is open.

The new owners of Mae's bought the place and turned it into a better success than it was, covid and all.

That is sad, use to be a great time. Go to Nola on Tap and then to the Pub after. Those years that they lined up at least.

I mostly had issue with how the funding from Red Beans was presented by Avenue. Basically saying we are closing our business to get money when we already had the ability to open on our own.
There were other restaurants/bars who didn’t have the ability to open at that time and could have used that money to get up and running again. I donated right around that time to Red Beans, and it just didn’t sit right with me.

Red Beans has been doing good stuff for a lot of people. I do think there is room for improvement as I do with many other charities. Hoping they gain more experience and knowledge to continue to help individuals in the community who need it.

Zwanze Day was always a shite show, but usually a fun shitshow. I think the last one I went to at the Pub was probably '12 or '13. Ended up back at Wise's or Rohan's place. Last thing I remember is falling off my bike on Magazine some time that night and waking up to a very angry wife.

I blame the downfall on the white interior paint.

Even douchebag Scott at Courtyard seems to have figured this out much better than her.

He gets a pass from me as he is doing work raising funds/supplies for Ida relief in the River and Bayou Parishes.

Nah. I think all of the craft breweries that seem to be alive and well and her ways of getting hard to get beers wo going through distributors broke her. She should have seen this coming when breweries started popping up over the past decade.

I’ll make a bold prediction that the Bulldog on magazine will be closed for similar reasons within the next two years as well.
