Every now and then when I need a quick breakfast on my way to work, I stop by McDonald’s for a McGriddle or McMuffin and a cup of coffee. Thinking back, I can’t ever recall a time when I’ve received rude and/or slow service. My order is quickly taken at the speaker, they always say thank you, and my order is always correct (I mean it’s hard to mess up a breakfast sandwich and hash brown), hot, and I’m out of there quickly. It’s almost Chick-Fil-A quality service. This is in stark contrast from when you go in the afternoon or night where your usual interaction is nothing but “Go ‘head” and “drive around”, with MAYBE being told a price at the window. Any theories as to why this is? I’ll hang up and listen.

Two Sat. mornings ago, 8:00 pm shift, there was no one there to cook biscuits. This per a very harried manager.

They are notorious for forgetting to put your hash browns in with your big breakfast

I think it’s a combination of several things. Only the better employees can be relied on to consistently wake up and show up for that early shift.

You’d be surprised how many people only buy coffee. That speeds up the process.

Simpler menu that doesn’t have a lot of room for customization, or complex orders.

I think the hash brown patty is the only fried item, and those can be kept warm a long time after cooking and still taste fresh.

Mornings are usually commuters with a single order. There aren’t a lot of cars full of people placing separate orders.

It’s not. I have received hot Coke with no ice and cold egg McMuffins on more than one occasion.

It's like this in other industries as well. I can tell you that our early day shift (6 a - 2p) for care is pretty good. Our 2 p - 10 p is absolute shite.

And we're just happy people show up for 10 p - 6 a shift.

I'll never know until they decide to add the steak egg and cheese biscuit back to the menu

The McDonald’s by our house has great breakfast service, however you have to ask for a tray to eat on (instead of them just giving you one).

Even if you told them that your order is for dine-in you still have to request a tray.

I find this odd.

The kind of people who willingly wake up early to go to work are good people.

My wife picked up 2 sau/egg/cheese biscuits and a medium diet coke, $16. I'll pass.
