Someone explain this to me. How can a place that produces such a good product fail? Were they not selling enough “to go” beer? It seems like the prices to go were the same as if you drank on premise. It seems like if they were doing “special releases” every couple of weeks they would be able to push through a lot of beer. Do they have restrictions on how much “to go” beer they could sell?
They literally opened in late November and only had a few months to get going before being locked down. Beer enthusiasts were very into it but the general market mostly had not not heard of them yet. They dabbled in small distro, but they couldn’t get their kegs out to bars because bars were closed
Shitty timing for them

That actually makes me feel less sad about it.
Well it’s probably less bad for the owners since they can do other things, but sucks for the local beer scene because they were top notch

Second would be they are not setup to profit with margins coming from distributors. .
This. Most new breweries that start up, aren't planning for distribution, nonetheless canning/bottling/packaging. Kegging is a bit different, and your profit margin is greater, especially if you are selling in house.

Exactly.
They did have their own canning line in house starting out (came from SoPro), but it was intended for selling regular small batch releases sold direct to market. That model requires heavy traffic and being in a large market. NOLA could have supported it in normal times

That was crappy location for their operation. They didn’t have much of a crowd even under normal conditions the few times I went

This. The Spring and early Summer is one of the highest business times for breweries.
Just tough luck shite.

They're dead. Sounds like key people involved are moving on to much greener pastures.
Much greener pastures in the beer world?

Where are the dairy farmers gonna sell their lactose now?

Man that sucks. The tap room was awesome, great owners and staff, and killer beer.

Best thing about your link is when he talked about the taproom and how they wanted it to look. First time I went there, I walked in, looked around, and walked out to make sure I was at the right place
I loved everything about the brewery. Their quirky style, the themed bathrooms, the people, their can designs, and most importantly, their beer.
I am really gonna miss that place. RIP

When I said I didn't love the tap room, part of it was because it felt like an internet meme in real life. it wasn't my idea of a place where I would spend tons of time downing beers but apparently lots of people liked it. Say what you will about courtyard, but there was something organically cool about it being just a a loading dock prior to the renovation of the old space.

Yea, they didn't post the other half of the story.

I'm going to say that is a strong possibility

Their location was fine, easy to get to from almost anywhere in the City. Timing was bad, most local breweries need at least 6 months but probably a year before they really hit their stride and develop enough sustainable business.
I'm 99% sure if it was a normal spring from St. Patty's Day to FQF to JF to everything else happening in the City they would have been ok. They were actually developing pretty decent pre-Pelicans game crowds for folks stopping by before heading to the SKC.

I'm assuming that means someone was leaving regardless for another venture

We are talking about Central City. Being easy to get to (is it really?) has not mattered to the other failed businesses. There’s no real attraction out there, minimal neighborhood support. It’s not like you can bar hop or stop in before going to eat or a show or whatever. That area is scary to most locals. To boot they paid $675k for that building plus renovations. You’re talking a million plus investment for a brewery in central city. You’re banking on serious traffic to feed the bottom line
Quinby chunn’s dad is loaded, it won’t hurt em, but I believe it was a poor investment to go to central city. Valiant effort but that good brew would probably be killing it elsewhere in the city

maybe some of these breweries need to look into sharing sharing one space and equipment.

Now they can’t even sell the rest of their stock Through the weekend because bars are being closed at 6am.
