Ok, let me put it in a way that some of you may understand a little better. Lets pretend LSU gets top 5 recruiting classes every year in football, yet that manage to go 9-3 every year. For the passionate fan who is into LSU football, this is going to be disappointing. The potential is there, but they under achieve. To the average casual fan, they might not care that much and will be happy to have a winning record and making trips to bowl games.

Abita has the potential to be so much better, but is content with being average.

Great analogy, Abita is the Les Miles of breweries

9-3? frick, Abita barely gets bowl eligible with those top 5 classes.

Nah, I give him more of a St Arnold rating.

I'd give my left nut if Abita had the success of Miles.

Nah. Les hits it out of the park on occasion. As someone else said, I think St Arnold would be a good comparison

As much as Abita loves making profits, I don't understand why they don't bottle the oyster stout which would kill it nationwide.

There's a lot about Abita I just don't understand.

Actually, the idiots in this thread that are still saying that we "hate" abita are akin to the positigers on the rant.

"Just be happy you have a brewery here", kind of responses.

Because Abita wont do anything that isn't a sure bet..

If capital and resources was all it took to make great beer then BMC would be killing it. I've just accepted the fact that Abita would much rather be a small version of BMC than Stone or Dogfish Head and quit buying their beer.

What's the name of the super dark beer that Abita came out with last year? Almost a Guiness like consistency. I know the Bulldog had it in BR (only on tap). I believe it was seasonal as well.

It would automatically become #1 oyster stout, it fits in with their Louisiana profile, seems like a no brainer. But I guess the margin on it doesn't fit into their beer profile.

Probably, but I can only think of two other oyster stouts.

I think if Abita did a limited winter/fall release of oyster stout in bombers then it would do great. I don't see it doing especially well if it was available year round.

Nail on the head here..This is my main gripe..Some of us don't have time or resources to try everything that Abita or anyone else for that matter puts on taps...I cannot tell you the last time I got a beer at a bar..Put better stuff in the bottles...

True, but not when it comes to the great beer part.

Although I'm interested to see how the whole Goose Island thing works out with AB InBev in the long run.

Good point. I know a lot of people who can stop on the way home and pick up a beer or two, but can't stop and a bar and grab a pint.

Does anyone know if it's legal for liquor/grocery stores to fill growlers in Louisiana? I would think someone could make a ton of money doing this.

I'm not sure, but Tramonte's has a couple beers on tap at their place, but they're more of a meat market than a traditional supermarket.

So you can stop at a grocery but you can't stop at bar to get growler filled.
