Get those seats locked in with two young conservatives/constitutionalists for the next 30+ years.

They should decide who goes first over breakfast this morning.

We need a 54-46 majority so we can choose an equal Conservative and not have to appease the Democrats at all.

These two are the best men on the court. They can name when they retire. Yes it would be politically good to have them retire during his term but I don't want to lose them either and get some limp dick like Brett Kavanaugh or Amy Coney Barrett and have the court become more moderate.

This is what I said this morning in the election thread. This is our chance to secure the Court for the foreseeable future.

And I think Thomas has said before that he would like to be able to enjoy some retirement time and not be a Justice until he dies.

I’m grateful that he’s hung in there .. I vaguely remember the Anita hill shot that almost tanked him.

Agreed, but we don't want an RBG situation, plus both of them are in their mid-70s and would likely want to enjoy a decent retirement.

This. Someone they know and have worked with personally who can carry on their legacy.

Trump needs to pick better judges if it does happen

Along with a certain future POTUS that tried to screw him while chairing the Senate Judiciary Committee.

I understand what you're saying, but I think the better selection or word would be strict Constitutionalists as opposed to Conservatives.
Not to young either. Young people are still open to change and being compromised. Older is usually at the point to not give a frick anymore and do what is needed. In addition older might think of their legacy a little more than a younger person. I present John Roberts as an example of compromised.

The country is so divided on issues, I think the true solution is to place more things in the hands of the States and less of the one size fits all Federal government in total control..

Trump could conceivably have 7 appointments to his name. The 3 from his first term and then replacements for Alito, Thomas, Kagan and Sotomeyer. This could make it very interesting for the next couple decades

I edited my OP

quote:

Thomas was 43 when he was appointed by the elder Bush, so around that age.

Which will take a constitutionalist Supreme Court to help execute.

Eight if Roberts decides to hang it up. I don't see Kagan retiring under a GOP prez if she can help it.
