Very long time lurker here. There has been a lot of negatigers and trolls/idiots on the SecRant that made arguments against the Brian Kelly hiring. I am going to debunk every one of them.

1. Brian Kelly has never won a national championship. He is 0-2 in the Div 1 playoffs.

Only 4 coaches currently have won a national title: Saban, Swinney, Fisher, and Mack Brown. Saban isn't coming home, Swinney isn't leaving Clemson, Fisher is an idiot and no one wants Mack Brown. So by this logic, there is not a single hire that would be satisfactory. Yes he is 0-2 in the playoffs. He has been a coach for 12 years. How many coaches over the last 12 years have won in the playoffs not named Bama, Clemson, Georgia and Ohio State? So then I guess no one is hiring any coaches worth a crap.

2. His recruiting classes typically rank around 13-16th. If he recruits like that we will get killed in the SEC.

Do you think the academic standards at Notre Dame have something to do with that? Probably only 10 out of Bama's 80 players would even be qualified to play at ND. Secondly, based on this rationale, the only coaches who would be acceptable are the top 10 recruiting ranks which are made up of half SEC schools, Ohio State, Oklahoma, etc. So then i guess Florida is screwed with Napier since his recruiting classes were horrible. What were Fickel's recruiting classes? You have to look at where they were coaching when they had those rankings. Do you think if Kelly had been at Bama the last 12 years his recruiting rankings would be the same? Dumb argument.

3. His record was inflated by playing in the weak ACC. Whenever they played someone good, like in playoffs, they typically lose.

Once again, the only coaches would be playing good teams all the time would be SEC coaches or maybe Big 10 coaches and Big 10 is debatable. So that eliminates pretty much all other teams/coaches. Almost all coaches outside of those conferences, like Fickel, and Cristobal, and Riley play weak schedules. A coach can only play who is on his schedule. His combined record over the last 5 years is 54-9. So unless we hired Saban, Smart, Swinney, or Day, no one would suffice for this argument.

4. He got killed both times he played Bama, guess LSU will never beat Bama again.

First off, Bama kills almost everybody since Saban has been there. So if getting killed by Bama is someone we don't want to hire, then who does that leave us? Swinney? Smart? Saban is the greatest coach of all time and they are on a unprecendented run. At least he got to the championship. How many teams in 2012 would have beaten Bama that year? None.

5. He is too old. We needed someone younger.

He is 60, 10 years younger than Saban. Ideally we would get someone younger, etc. But what comes with younger is the itch to maybe go to NFL, etc. We don't have to worry about that with Kelly. So let's say he coaches 10 years. I will gladly take where our program will be 10 years from now when we hire someone else.

There are more arguments against him that are too stupid to even mention.

This is a fantastic hire. Why?

1. LSU needs a culture reset and other than Saban, he is the perfect coach to get us back to the hard-nose, disciplined, run through a wall mentality that all LSU fans long for.

2. He is a proven winner. Everywhere he has been he has won. We just hired ND's coach. Florida hired a sun belt coach. Oklahoma is going to hire a coordinator who has never even been a head coach. Georgia hired a coordinator as well, although it worked out amazingly for them. Texas hired a coordinator, same for Ohio state. Oregon promoted from within. No one is hiring a coach with Kelly's pedigree except USC, and we all know Riley is a scared little bitch.

3. Every LSU fan is tired of having an idiot represent the football program. We went from Saban to someone who eats grass and has no idea how to run an offense to someone who is made fun of. Kelly is no nonsense and will be someone you will be proud to represent LSU.

You never know when a school hires a coach whether he will work out. But this is the only sure thing we could have hired that also has the "chest" to compete in the SEC .(looking at you Riley)

Geaux Tigers

edited for stupid mistakes. Thanks for pointing them out.

Them and bama were the only teams that averaged 30 points on offense and 20 points on defense.

But that dont "debunk". That just tries to "justify". He is 3-8 against top 10 competition.

They are Wrong. He led Grand Valley State to consecutive NCAA Division II Football Championships in 2002 and 2003.

That's actually a pretty good point there that's not talked about

When we hired Saban how was his record against top competition? Nattys? So let me get this straight, every coaching search is basically undefeated and natty winner or bust? It's almost like people don't understand that there are MULTIPLE factors into building a winning program.

Notre Dame played in the ACC in the COVID year, that's it. Wtf is this point?

Saban is 70, and it's not even that hard to find that.

Good attempt, but damn, at least get the simple facts right.

You forgot to debunk that he's a purple faced screaming idiot that gets skulldrug by good competition.
