How was the Riley/USC deal kept so quiet?

Saturday night Riley makes that LSU coach comment, then today Riley is gone to USC.
How did everyone get played?
I think Woodward knew this deal was done 2 weeks ago. Things got really quiet this past week to 2 weeks after all the hot rumors of Riley to LSU 2 weeks ago. Then things got eerily quiet and the assumption was that LSU got Riley.

It could be Woodward used Riley as a sample screen for who had really gone after.

Unlike past USC searches where there were tons of different competing parties and people leaking like crazy, the only two people who knew anything were Bohn and Brandon Sosna who is his 28 year old Chief of Staff and analytics wiz kid. It seems the only media they were saying anything to was Feldman.

We will more than likely be saying the same thing about our next coach. How did woodward keep this so quiet? There hasn't been any factual info released from SW's circle. It has only been people guessing on possibilities..

Riley agent set smokescreen about LSU.
One to keep everything quiet.
Two to make USC believe there was a bidding war. I think Woodward likely didn't offer him.
The only people who thought we offered Riley was this message board, spurred on by likely planted posters from the agent.

Riley and his agent used LSU as their smokescreen. Is simple as that.
It's very likely Riley had some inquiries, maybe even an early offer, from LSU. Along the way he chose USC, and our inquiries were their smokescreen.
That's why LR was so coy about it and never outright denied it... because it was a screen. Agent probably fanned the flames.

Didn't read the rest of the thread, but because USC is behind the times and so is the PAC 12 and no one really cares about them anymore. Not saying that can't change, but there is zero hype for USC.

LSU thought Riley was coming
Many high-up boosters were completely sold on it and were telling people it was done, which is why it got reported on this board. This has been confirmed by actual reporters.
The rest is just guesswork, but anyone with common sense and without bias probably can acknowledge that LSU got played, simple as that

USC is a private school, things are done differently.
Also, they have no rabid fanbase.

The only reason for LR to leave OU was OU’s joining the SEC. USC is the best choice for LR over #2 choice LSU and a bad choice of SEC OU.
I thought he was making a mistake by picking LSU, but I was happy because I think he would do well here.
How was LR/USC kept quiet? Towards the end of the season it wasn’t. I think OU had an inkling of LR’s departure. If not OU is run by incompetent buffoons! LR’s camp leaked the LSU story so that LR could positively deny them to OU while the contract got the finishing touches. Smart on LR twice!
