Woodie created the smoke with Riley to cover the real deal

If woodie is the master that we all think that he is then he would create smoke to hide what he’s doing.
You do that by giving some controlled info to people who are going to blab on the internet and social media.
Maybe this is what woodie did and the so called “insiders” around here unwittingly ran interference while he negotiated with the guy he really wanted.

No one knew what was happening even the big money boosters (people who leak). Riley must have been the buzz in those circles. I believe tbl and others who were hearing that. Clearly, it fell through. We really don’t know how far it got in Woodwards mind. And it’s feeling like we don’t have the same priorities as Woodward. Seems like a safe hire to get back to mediocrity is what he’s looking for.

You don't use a 1st tier head coach as smoke to hire a 2nd tier one. That's like giving your kid a PS4 in a PS5 box.

You are spot on with this assessment. The money is in escrow. It’s been vastly entertaining the past week watching all of this play out. The commentators last night referencing TD was the icing on the cake regarding the ultimate smoke screen.

He overpaid for a woman’s bball coach that had always wanted to come to LSU. Wow, what a master.
He got Jay Johnson to come to LSU for a big pay raise. Wow what a master.
He got Jimbo to A&M for a trillion dollars so A&M could be mediocre.
Now he has allowed LSU to look stupid again with this Riley nonsense. Smokescreen? What could it possibly help?

Then woodie loses his job ! If what you’re saying is true then he either misled the boosters or he’s incompetent. Either way, it’s reason to fire someone.
You don’t go to the booster folks who put up the money and have them agree to 12+mil a year for a top tier coach like Riley and then hire a 2nd tier guy.

I have to agree with this. We’ve been five the Woody Kool Aid and told he’s amazing. I do believe he’s gonna be a good AD, but all the sunshine pumping about him being a wizard seems like too much.
He convinced Mulkey to basically come home to a place she wanted to coach and live. His top baseball coaches fell through and he got his second or third or fourth pick Johnson from Arizona, a school anyone would leave for LSU. I think they are both great hires, but where was the wizardry?

So we are firing our AD now? This is laughable!
Can we please make a machine that disables the send button if your IQ is below 25? I realize it would make this message board less entertaining, but I see a benefit.
I think a little perspective is in order.
1- our AD pulled the trigger early on Ed. That’s a big mark in his corner for me. God knows what was going on behind the scenes, but I’d guess it was much worse of a situation than the tip we knew.
2- our AD had calls in to every top tier coach & a legitimate chance to entice them. Our last AD was a joke & it’s why Interim Ed was our choice at the end
3- despite this roller coaster of message board emotions (which I consume for entertainment willingly), we will end up with a quality coach & another Natty in short time
