This is likely more common than we want to know about.

My youngest used to watch iCarly on the Disney channel. One of the stars (Jannette McCurdy) recently talked about her mom making her do certain things, eating certain foods, looking a certain way. Mom had tried to be an actress in her career and failed miserably so it’s almost like she was living through her daughter. And there’s only a handful of stuff that she came forward with, no telling what else she has kept inside.

Exactly. She enabled this whole thing. No way she didn't know what was going on.

I don't dismiss this story out of hand considering the amount of rumors that swirled around Kirk Douglas until his death, but I think it bad form to wait until the man is dead before accusing him of sexual assault.

Sure, they could have gone at him while alive and society was ready. But then would you say it’s bad form to go after an old man? Maybe he would have apologized. Dunno.

Maybe bad form, maybe not. Not like they’re trying to cancel all his movies, just saying how it was. It’s just one of those facts that come to light after everyone is history.

You know what else is bad form? To rape someone.

And you know what else is bad form? Letting your teenage daughter with O-T 10 looks go into a hotel room with an older man - completely alone. Their mom quite literally pimped Natalie Wood out so she could hit it big in Hollywood.

This happened when she was filming The Searchers with John Wayne. There were rumors in Hollywood that K.Douglas would steer clear of the Duke because Wayne wanted to kick his arse in the 50's. Might explain why they did not like working together even though they did 3 films together.

Wayne was not a perfect person by any means but he was a pretty decent dude who went to bat for a lot of people in Hollywood and would help a lot of struggling actors and actresses out both professionally and personally

Are child labor laws not applicable in Hollywood?

Or is it like how an actor doesn't have to follow basic gun safety?

Just the other day I watched the movie "The Green Promise " on HBO Max with a 10 year old Natalie Wood and it really made me sad knowing what was ahead for that poor little girl. Once she got into the clutches of Hollywood society she didn't have a chance of a normal life and being pimped by her own mother and getting raped was the result. And who knows what happened on that boat though I guess it could have been an accident

This is one of the many reasons I loathe Hollywood, a society that won't even protect its children is not valid and really shouldn't be tolerated. It's tragic

Edited to say it was Tubi I saw that movie on, not HBO Max

The Wizard of Oz bothers me for the same reason.

I was thinking about this thread last night in connection with Henry Ruggs and Joe Biden’s daughter. Even the true OT ballers cannot begin to comprehend how athletes, celebrities, and politicians live. Like playing a video game with all the cheat codes turned on. God mode. Access to anything and anyone at anytime with zero consequences. All the same urges and desires as a normal person, but zero checks or accountability. “12 year old girl with blonde hair and an 8 ball of coke direct to your rooftop villa? You got it, Mr. Sinatra. We’ll be there in 10 minutes.”

Whoever said that all the Hollywood types are trashy was spot on. We laugh at stories about Florida Man, but celebrities and politicians are no different except they have millions of dollars to fuel their indulgences.

I don’t know what the answer is - stop consuming their products? Hell CEOs and captains of industry are the same way; you can’t exactly stop getting gas or using a bank. Everything’s fricked man.

In Harm’s Way
The War Wagon
Cast a Giant Shadow

Scary that I know that. Especially the last one. But then, I am a huge John Wayne fan.

Duke was very protective of his friends. People who worked with him truly respected his work ethic and professionalism as well as his loyalty. Guys like Rock Hudson always had good things to say about him despite Duke's far right positions.

He was a pretty decent guy...my guess is that if he knew about what happened to Natalie Wood, she would probably be one of the safest people in Hollywood. Wayne was not above confronting assholes.

Not a great film by any measure. But a stellar cast. I actually have it on DVD as part of a collection of Sinatra films.
