My impression as well.
Maybe that arrogance and "rumors" are reasons he and John Wayne didn't get along. (It was always said to be "political differences".)

So much to refute that the safe play was silence. Kirk was very likely the very bad man he was rumored to be. Most of the witnesses -- if not all - are probably gone too.

Very true. Between studio heads, their enforcers, and a cooperative(paid off) press, Hollywood knew how to keep things from ever coming out back then.
I'd still like to know who killed Ted Healey. It sure looks like Wallace Beery and Cubby Broccoli were involved.
I saw somewhere that Arthur Lake(Dagwood Bumstead) and Orson Welles were on the L.A.P.D. suspect list in The Black Dahlia case.
Hollywood has a really dark history.

FWIW, a friend's son works, in the accounting department, for one of the major, old school movie companies. He's been telling his dad that Hollywood is now run by a huge gay community & that the young bods of choice are young boys "fresh off small towns USA".
