FWIW: CFB coaches are high on Aranda.

I’m an OKC attorney. A colleague of mine is an OU booster, former Jim Thorpe Award committee member, and close-first cousin of a certain P5 coach who got fired yesterday. Just trying to establish some credibility on his opinion. We were talking about the state of college football and the coaching carousel. Of course he has some bias in that he doesn’t want us to possibly poach Riley but he touted Aranda. He said, “Matt is a very good friend of Dave Aranda and thinks very highly of him. They’re both Christian guys and share the same values, plus Matt says the guy just has an incredible football mind. In fact he says most in the coaching world thinks highly of him and expect he is going to do some great things, whether at Baylor or the next stop.”
Like I said, take it for what it’s worth. Of course OU fans would gladly tout other names besides Riley, but that doesn’t mean what he says isn’t true. To be honest it got me to think more about Aranda than I had previously and more excited at the prospect. I hope Scott at least takes a good look at him.
On the other hand, just because the coaching community likes someone doesn’t mean they will be as successful in P5 football. The coaching community, I had been told, was really big on Chad Morris a few years ago before he want to Arkansas.

No doubt and Tucker may be much worse.

Ok then Riley to LSU and Aranda to OU

My sense of The pulse of this board on an Aranda hire:
We obviously got told no by some bigger fish, but I can get behind it and roll with Aranda, not splashy but solid/logical hire

Thanks for sharing. There is some risk for Woody if he hires from from Tier 2 (Kiffin, Napier, Tucker, etc.) and Aranda proves the be the better coach over the long haul.
Woody was able to observe Aranda first hand in 2019, so if he passes (assuming the whales turn down) he needs to be sure the hire works out or he’ll be questioned on Aranda.

That last sentence sums it up for me, not so much about Aranda but about the hot names. The hot names always look good until they don’t. To paraphrase , everyone has a plan until there are hit in the mouth.
Coming to this spot is no cakewalk. The coach needs to have overcome adversity and understand the challenge of the SEC

man pair dave up with bright offensive coordinators and let him run the ship.

I would like to make a couple of others say no first, but I could get behind an Aranda hire

You always see “the next Saban” thrown around here but Aranda is probably the one it applies to most.

That's probably accurate. The only reason I wouldn't put Aranda as a top 2-3 candidate is I really want an offensive HC, but I would not be unhappy at all if Aranda gets the job.

If we fall to the second tier coaches (and I include Tucker in the second tier), Aranda would be the one I want.

With Aranda you get attention to detail, no private life embarrassments, a solid knowledge of one side of the ball. I think you let him hire an inventive OC and he would wreck shop. I like him far more than Tucker or Franklin as far as Defensive minded coaches

I think most would be happy with aranda but he isn't their first choice.

Without a doubt, I respect the hell out of Dave Aranda and would take him as the LSU head football coach - and think he would do well here. I just think you have to shoot for the stars first (Riley, Dabo, Fickell, whoever you think the stars are). Aranda is still a green head coach.

I agree and you also get a guy that knows LSU and many of the folks in the AD so he would be able to transition quickly. You also get a coach that isn't an ego driven control freak who would do his due diligence in hiring his staff.
