Jeff Grimes is his OC now and, as a BYU fan I saw first hand what he can do when you hand him the reins. He turned our soft OL into a force and headed that balanced Zach Wilson offense last year. Then we played him last week and you can see his influence all over that Baylor offense after one season. I've watched Baylor a few times this year and you can tell they are going to be good with that staff there. You guys might not love the idea because you've seen both up close for years, warts and all. But every coach has their warts. Aranda and Grimes are a lethal combo and LSU could do a lot worse..

Aranda has been known as a great football mind for almost 2 decades. What wasn't certain was whether he could be the face of a program. I think the jury is still out in Waco, but I promise LSU could, and have, done much worse than Aranda.

The coaching community, I had been told, was really big on Chad Morris a few years ago before he want to Arkansas.

Maybe Texas high school coaches, but most could see that Morris was a flash in the pan with phenomenal talent at Clemson.

To be honest, I am totally on board an Aranda hire. Why do you think Ed threw a giant checkbook at him when he got promoted? Not just because Dave is an exceptional DC, he pretty much held this program together while we fired one dipshit and hired another.

Kind of think it isn't a coincidence that we went totally downhill the second he left. So I will ride with Dave and be thrilled with the hire if it is him.

Id take him. He has a great football mind and by all indications he seems to be a high character man. We need someone stable like him at the helm.

I dont think anybody would complain about Aranda coming back here. He seems to be in everybody's top 5. Personally id like to see him bring Tom herman as OC like we tried last time.

I really want an offensive HC, but I would not be unhappy at all if Aranda gets the job.

I think every fan of college football likes to watch some degree of good offensive football, as in a well-balanced" team. I fall into that category. OTOH, the problem/natural tendency of many offensive minded college football head coaches (e.g. Bobby Petrino, Mike Leach and others) is to rely too heavily on offense to win games, thinking they can win the big game or tight game using their offense. One good thing about a defensive minded HC is he realizes he can't win every game w/ his defense-he has to score adequate points. As I see it, that's a small thing in favor of a defensive HC. Although he's not hight on my list, I admit I get chills thinking of the offense someone like Lane Kiffin could put on the field as HC at LSU.

Thanks for sharing. There is some risk for Woody if he hires from from Tier 2 (Kiffin, Napier, Tucker, etc.) and Aranda proves the be the better coach over the long haul.

Aranda 100% gets offered before the other 3 listed above. Woody’s list is:

1) Riley or 2 or 3 tier 1 coaches nobody has even seriously considered because it seems impossible. I don’t know who he’s looking at and considering them to be his “white wale”.

2) Aranda: It’s not the exciting home run hire that most are wanting. It’s a great hire, IMO. Aranda will run a tight ship, he would win consistently and be able to win championships.

Aranda will be able to attract basically any Coordinators he wants at LSU. He has no ego whatsoever. Dude doesn’t get enough credit. He did a lot more for LSU than just be the DC. He spent a lot of time working with and watching film with offensive staff 2018-2019, which really isn’t in his scope of work. He deserves a bunch more credit but he doesn’t need it to feel validated like others. He takes pride in his product on the field.

3) Napier- could be the next real deal. I think he’ll certainly be good. He certainly knows the right things to say. He’s the biggest unknown to me. He could be better than even some of his most loyal supporters could ever imagine.

4) Campbell, Kiffin, Tucker- I don’t think either of these guys are even being considered despite what leaks or “sauces” say. Downvote away but Kiffin would be at the top of my list with Aranda and Riley. He’d churn out offensive juggernauts and win at least 1 National Championship within 5 years but it’s unknown what Kiffin’s long term plan is. Same could be said for Aranda. Aranda has NFL HC written all over him. Not saying Kiffin would be going back to the pros but the only reason he’s not being considered is because his past and no one is really sure of his aspirations

I know Woody is probably not going to hire Dave Aranda, but I do hope there is an "Aranda Day" on the CC board.

I loved him while he was here, and his importance to our success is pretty apparent since we basically imploded as soon as he left.

I've got some FOMO when I think of Aranda. Its going to kill me to see him succeed at a big time program if we pass on him. He's ours, dammit. But at the same time I know Scott is going after bigger names that are more proven. But damn. He may end up being the one that got away.
