You don’t think Riley has the resources at Oklahoma to compete in the SEC? If he can’t compete that’s a knock on him. LSU isn’t head and shoulders above OU. Take off the purple and gold glasses.

Um, what happens every time OU plays in the playoffs?

An elite LSU team >>> an elite OU team.

Him coming to the SEC is only going to be harder on OU. Regardless of resources.
LSU is like a sleeping giant.

I agree, it's not head and shoulders better, but the pitch to Riley would be:

1. We'll pay you $10m/year, so money is, at worst, going to be close.

2. No more having to compete for recruits nationwide, especially in Texas. And with Texas joining the SEC and that Texas-aTm arms race being rekindled, it's going to get even tougher to recruit in Texas. Oklahoma's transition to the SEC is going to be tougher than Texas'.

3. On that same note, you have one of the best recruiting states in the country for yourself, including on the defensive side of the ball which has been tough for Oklahoma. You can still dip your toes into Texas, but you don't have to. You can win championships with mostly Louisiana kids.

4. Our past three coaches have won titles, and you're a significantly better coach than at least two of them. shite, Coach Orgeron beat you by 40. Imagine what you could do. (OK, phrase that a little differently).

In short, the pitch is easier recruiting + championship pedigree + comparable/better facilities + comparable money.

I don't think he'd leave, but there are intangibles there that could be tempting.

Recruiting in La >> OU

In the SEC, that's a HUGE advantage.

I get what you're saying here but Riley still seems like a pipe dream. One I'd love to smoke though.

Not really. OU is a national brand so they can go get anyone they want.

Yes but they have to rely on national recruiting. This is never healthy see what happened to Tennessee. That's why they fell to pieces. No talent in their state and the rise of powers around them like clemson, georgia, bama. It doesn't matter who's around LA you get one of the highest per capita talent states in the country and no competition in the state. It's a huge difference even with national brand recognition.

You don't find it a coincidence OU can never get over the hump? It has been a running meme since Stoops.

They’re still OU in Norman. He’s had as much success as anyone and he still has to raid Texas to get anyone.

He would leave because 3/8 of his loses are to SEC opponents, and Ounhas been getting shellacked by the SEC for 2 decades now.

Eh, they still aren’t getting all the top recruits in the southeast, especially defensively.

Riley is a national brand. Riley + LSU is insNe.

OU has to dig into Texas for their best players. LSU's best players are all in state, and on top of that, we cherry pick out of Texas. Recruiting is a lot easier at LSU.

I know. I think it could be Riley but trying to figure out why and how this would work.

Oklahoma's classes have been 10th, 12th, 6th, 9th, 8th under Riley. Those are good classes, but they suggest a ceiling that wouldn't be present at LSU or any other top SEC team. Of the repeat players in the CFP (Alabama, OSU, Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma), their recruiting classes are the worst.

Thats what everyone said about Kim Mulkey, too.Maybe she came because she's home. Maybe she came because of Woodward. I don't know, but I'm not counting him out just yet.

Why didn’t Riley get Maason Smith? Louisiana produces Maason Smiths and they don’t tend to wind up at OU. They wind up at LSU or Bama.

It's pretty simple. As the others have said, he's tired of getting his arse kicked by the SEC in the playoffs.

Riley would be a home run hire.

ETA: but I doubt they can get him

Would Chip Kelly be a backup plan to a Lincoln Riley? Chip seems to have always liked LSU and might take the leap.

Same. I’d kiss Woody on the mouth (even with the herpes he has going on currently) if he can pull LR.
