Aranda became a threat. He had to go, thus beginning the unravelling.
Ironic that Orgeron could be on an opposing sideline watching Aranda coaching LSU. Just desert's.

1. Use the cache and leverage of the program and 2019 season to hire the BEST OC/DC available and not try to hire guys who you think would not use LSU as a quick stepping stone to another gig.
2. Hire the best DC and let him run HIS defense...not the guy you want to run YOUR defensive approach.
O was pissed that Joe Brady left LSU after just one season because it meant O had to find another OC to replace him. This was after swinging and missing on the OC hires in 17 and 18. First and foremost, O did not want another young coach who would use LSU for a quick career boost then move on. So he hired a veteran coach, with no market demand, because he knew the guy probably wouldn't be looking to use LSU as a quick stepping stone. Ability was second in the qualities Ed wanted.
On defense, Ed wasn't heartbroken to see Aranda go. Ed never liked Aranda's approach because it limited the impact of the DL (which is all O knows). With Aranda gone, O now had the opportunity to run HIS defense. Unfortunately, his defense is focused SOLELY on the DL being impactful. He didn't really think about maybe he didn't quite have the personnel to make the switch or that the change in approach could have ripple effects on the second two levels of the defense. He just wanted a DL that would sack the QB. But he also wanted a DC that wasn't going to be quick to leave LSU after one successful season. So he found another veteran guy, with little market demand, he thought he could pay well to run O's defense for years to come.
From 17-19 O had only minimal control over the gameplay/approach. Aranda essentially had full autonomy over the defense. Ed knows NOTHING about offensive football, so he had to leave that up to his OC.
Following 2019 he had the opportunity to fully make it "his team". They were going to run HIS defense. And he wasn't going to bring in another "kid" on offense who would bail after one season. So what could have been done post-2019 to prevent this? In short, keep Orgeron's involvement in the actual gameplay/approach to a minimum...as it was in 17-19

He took a P5 head coaching job.

Find another generational talent at QB.
Even with Aranda and Brady, without Burrow we were headed where we are today.
People forget the trajectory of this program was already nosediving by spring of 2018.

The biggest issues that I have seen mentioned is this
Poor roster management/recruiting
Reliance upon superstar Coordinators
No Linebacker Depth: Can't stop the run, bad defense
Lack of Good/Veteran O: can't run the ball and QB pressure, can't adapt when facing an injury
linemen
Shuffling through Coordinators like you would shuffle through cards
No offense or defensive mind of his own

Do what other coaches do and hire top notch coordinators
He hired Pellini and then admitted that he didn’t know what he was doing.
Everyone is laughing at him

Retain Aranda with an unreasonable salary and HCIW tag?
Make Joe Brady the OC with a crazy price tag?
Should've hired a guy to "take care" of Matt Rhule & it would've solved both problems above for less money...

Lol the opposite actually
O at least pretending to care a little more (see Saban and most other coaches) would’ve gone a long way

O line recruits that panned out.
Obviously a better DC.
Better conditioning. The guys were gasping for air in the first quarter last week. I’m told Dare lost 15 lbs after making the move to KY.

Props to the OP. Great discussion topic.
My litany:
- Put a boot up Ed's youknowwhat so he wouldn't make a lazy DC hire.
- Jettison his ill-informed commitment to a 4-man DL. Nothing wrong with 4-man fronts. Chief made it work as did Aranda in '16. But it's a part of the defense and strategy has to be adjusted accordingly.
- Hire better assistants. That was his plan wasn't it.
Frankly, Ed is lazy and immature. What's happening was inevitable unless he changed.

Realistically - yes do what it takes to keep aranda here and whatever it cost to make brady the OC
but to do this i think ed has to go since he would meddle and not let them coach as needed without butting in and demanding things. its the only way i see it would have worked

Can’t stop yourself from taking a cheap shot at Coach E
Offense was good enough defense ruined the season

I've said this a lot. Promote two coordinators from within, or at least find two coordinators with the same style as the ones that left.
DA wanted to be a HC and Brady wanted to go back to the NFL. I don't think any amount of money would have been enough.
HCIW tag doesn't work unless you think the coach is very close to retirement.

Lots of truth in your post and have to agree with the characterization.

Better O and D coordinator hires and better o-line recruiting

Not give 0 a contract extension worth 8.5 million/year.
Once he got paid, his ego got too big and he started to believe that he is the main reason for 2019.

1) Hire competent Coordinators and let them run THEIR systems.
2) Develop the OL on the team and/or recruit better OL.
3) Same as OL for Safties and Lbers.

When you have essentially 19 guys who were major contributors and both your DC and a your key passing game coordinators move on all at the same time, it does create a huge vacuum to fill. Couple that with Covid and the opt outs and your mountain gets higher and steeper
