Realistically - what could have been done post-2019 to prevent where we are?

Retain Aranda with an unreasonable salary and HCIW tag?
No Bo?
Make Joe Brady the OC with a crazy price tag?
Less injuries/opt outs to key guys?
I think we were headed to this point one way or another eventually, but I also feel like we sped the process up with some whiffs on major decisions.

Half-arse coordinator hire. Any desire at all to even attempt to retain Aranda instead of 4-3 muhhh.

Have a driven HC keeping things in order. You know a guy who takes pride in his work and in proving he was the guy for the job

If 0 doesnt rest on his laurels and actually grinds and get back to work, interviews legitimate coordinators, etc...
Coach 0 is the kind of guy that was destined fail after 2019 because a national championship was his end goal... not for the season... in general
Saban is successful because his focus is on the process and if you follow the process then you get rewarded with Ws and championships.
For 0 it isn't about the process, just the finish line. That's why he stopped trying and stumbles now.

Brady and Burrow covered up much of the line deficiencies. If O would’ve done more legwork other than trust Slinger could replicate the playbook and think any coordinator could run the d.

Taken a look at what got you there and not immediately fall back to bad habits.
O learned NOTHING in 2019. He won because he had the two smartest young coordinators in the game.
So who does he replace them with?
Two washed up dinosaurs who hadn't innovated in a decade plus.
Why? Who fricking knows? Probably because he's insecure and hated they got all the credit (deservedly) so he went back to the retread washed up scrap heap of bums he's comfortable with.

Some of the issues we have today lie in recruiting poorly along the LOS, and in other positions. The fact is it seems Miles did better recruiting the roster than O did.

Well, certainly the two coordinator hires were failures. So, if we couldn't retain Aranda or Brady then we needed better replacements than Ensminger/Linehan and Pelini.
We had a pretty talented roster coming back in 2020. We lost Shelvin, Chase, Vincent, Thomas and tons of others that were going to be starters and key contributors to 2020. So whatever decisions, or lack thereof, or failure to manage the roster could have prevented such a drop off in talent from 19 to 20.
Ed O lost his fire, and had personal distractions that seemed to linger throughout the offseason into the 2020 season.

Address Oline issues with the draft departure
Address secondary issues with depth at safety
Not go on Fox News talking politics
Not getting complacent and letting images go public
Hire a competent proven DC - stick with the 3-4
Hire a competent proven OC - let them run their own fricking office
That alone could've resulted in 2/3 more wins last season. Myles getting injured nobody can do anything about that but our defense was dog shite

Prevent O’s divorce
This was pretty much done during the season. Running to him like Miss Elizabeth every week was all for show.

Nothing. But that's because Ed O was head coach. There's a reason Alabama stays competitive changing OC/DC every other year on average. And that's because of Saban and his vision and execution.
O was never going to be good at the CEO model, and he isn't good enough on either side of the ball to focus money elsewhere. That's why this all fell apart, and was always going to. We HAD to nail at least one hire 120% and could maybe absorb a mediocre hire on the other side. That was the bare minimum we had to do to make up for O's deficiencies and that's a tough task to do.

Recruit better on the O line
Do what O said he’d do and hire the best coordinators not a couple novices who aren’t ready for this type of job.

Yep. Ed is definitely a guy who was satisfied just getting to the top.
Seems he had no desire (or ability) to stay there.

Its really an impossible question to answer without knowing what goes on beyond closed doors. How much influence did O have on the staff hires and how much influence came in from others? What was new? What was changed? Etc.
It's all basically a waste of time and too much speculation. Ultimately, O deserves to bear the burden of responsibility, regardless of how much he actually played a part in the downfall, he sits atop and is responsible.
He had a part in the greatest season of all time and he is responsible for the subsequent downfall. Critiquing how and why is pointless.

1. Actually do what you said you'd do and hire elite coordinators.
2. Recruit more/better offensive line prospects.
