re: Jon Gruden has OUTSTANDING idea to end all speculation regarding College FB Playoffs!!

I think this is a fantastic idea. And, it doesn't elongate the season any.

Wow - that has to be a mistake, right? Stein is going to control that offense anyways.

What I'd be curious about is how each team determines "value" - the algorithms they use to deduce how much money a player is worth. I'm sure depending upon the system, that value calculation is very different for speed vs. size vs. smarts and instincts, etc.
Which is what makes this so interesting to me. that is why this could be very different from school to school and team to team in pro sports because of what they value.
I looked at the GM's in pro football and basketball and more than 50% at the time I did the math were not athletes...they were business, economics, law majors. So, with non-athletes making the decisions they must have ways to or ideas on how to calculate value, just like they indicated in moneyball.

It's great. My son is in school getting a business degree with a minor in Sports Management to try to go this route. I wish this was an option when I was in college. Now there are exponentially more GM jobs than just in pro sports.
re: DC Coach I have no idea. But what I do know is top defenses in the SEC this year.

I love Bryant Haines but don't think he'll leave IU for a lateral move. He's been with Coach Cig for 10 years now.

Did we pursue Garrett and lose out to e Miss or did LSU not offer?

He looks and talks like the hitchhiker guy from Something About Mary.

The defense and rebounding are my biggest concerns so far.
I understand why we switch on screens, but it seems teams are picking up on that and then getting a big on a quick guard which then allows dribble penetration which is leading to kick outs and open 3's. And, it is putting smaller players on bigger players under the boards leading to offensive rebounds.
Maybe McMahon is saving some defensive looks, but we need to find alternate ways to defend if we are going to ask Robert Miller to defend a guard on the perimeter.
I'd also love for Jalen Reed and Miller to become more physical. You are freaking 6'10". Act like it!
2-guard remains my biggest concern. We don't really have a good one out of Mackinnon, King or Carter.

re: Minnesota beat this team by 50….it doesn’t matter how much talent

It was kind of a weird night. Arkansas barely beat Winthrop, A&M barely beat Montana, Ole Miss had a close game.
Rhett Lashlee...Curious that his name has not been mentioned much

Curious that his name has not been mentioned much, especially for the Arkansas job. Lots of experience as an OC/QB coach, and has done well as SMU, given their level.

I'd like a firm NO from Lanning as the step before Kiffin.
re: This LSU basketball team is somewhat talented…but don’t do anything particularly well…

And, because the depth seems to be a bit better, we can rotate some more people in if a shooter is struggling, we get in foul trouble, etc. In previous years we didn't have quality depth. Early indications are this team has more experience and depth....hopefully that will translate to more wins.
I watched Purdue - Alabama last night....those 2 teams are still in a different tier than LSU, but maybe we can at least win our home court and steal some road wins against the lesser teams that we've been used to losing to (Georgia, State, south Carolina, maybe Mizzou and A&M this year)

Philly - can you confirm whether Lanning has been contacted?
re: LSU MBB has two top tier players and a really good supporting cast

What do you all think about our 2 guards? I'm not convinced Mackinnon is going to be able to do much in SEC play, so I really hope King can step up. He looks athletic enough to guard SEC 2's and has some size to him. PJ Carter maybe can give some minutes???? Are we going to see anything from Zipper?
Other than the 2 spot, I agree with the previous posts that Sutton, Miller/Reed, Nwoko will give great minutes at the 3-5 spots. And I LOVE Tamba! Love players like him that just give valuable effort and the dirty work for the team.

Knowing the SEC is a Must
Posted by dennistracy on 11/10/25 at 11:46 am
As I think more about this hire, experience within the SEC is the biggest "must-have" in my opinion.
If you look at Kelly, he was "successful", but he was in a completely different class when he came to the SEC. All schools have resources. All schools have talent. All schools have good coaches. Recruiting is an absolute grind. Playing in hostile road venues is different than the other leagues. This job requires a hyper attention to detail and channeled aggression.
An up and coming G-5 coach may have the right traits, but it is such a big jump, we haven't demonstrated patience to allow a coach to take 2-3 years to learn on the job.
So, not saying this has to be a sitting or former SEC head coach, but at worst a coordinator with measurable SEC experience. I'm not convinced an NFL coordinator without SEC experience (playing or coaching) is sufficient.

My son goes to IU so I watch all of their games. Frankly, because that team plays good, sound fundamental football.
One thing I can tell you about IU's offense, is they have a clear identity, and Cig has been more vocal this year about saying how much Mike is calling the plays and he just offers what he sees on occasion.
They take what the defense gives perfectly, and run a great RPO offense. VERY well coached team. I'd take their d-coordinator too.

I’d be very happy with Brohm.
re: The case for Joe Brady.
Posted by dennistracy on 11/7/25 at 9:44 am to GrizzlyWintergreen
You guys are diverting from the question, which is whether you think Brady would be a good coach or not. Not whether he will actually take the job.
IF we were to get Brady, I would be very happy. The guys knows ball, and I've seen plenty of fire in him when they cut to the booth and they are celebrating a big touchdown.
He has credibility as an offensive coach, and from his time in the NFL knows what "good looks like".

All I see is Brohm’s offense running roughshod. That is a clinic is how you use a bye week to prep and surprise your opponent.
What a combo he would be with Baker.

We need a better plan on short yardage and goal line. I was heartened when we went wildcat early in the game with Johnson. We gained 5 or 6 yards but never went back to it. You would think with our short yardage struggles it would become a bigger part of our offense.
Agree. I'd like to see us bring Bordelon in or some of the other backup lineman and put them at fullback in front of Johnson on those wildcat runs.
