Day 1-100 you shite all over this pick.
Absolutely, and longer, and I’ve said multiple times I very much would be willing and want to eat crow on it. And that based on the end of last season it’s trending in that direction.
Doesn’t change the fact I said, from the outset, that what Zion needs is a stretch five that can rim protect, and that is how Hayes needs to be developed. And a ton of people wanted to argue like it was of no benefit. It’s good to see Hayes and this staff see what I see in terms of what direction to develop as a offensive player(if these reports are accurate and translate that is).

I want Hayes to develop an outside shot, because that would absolutely be huge for his development.
But even more than that, I want him to get a real handle. That's something that we saw just a bit of at the end of last year. I want to see lots of Jaxson getting the ball at the 3-pt line, taking one power dribble, and then postering some poor sap.
The real ceiling for Jaxson Hayes is Giannis, but with a better outside shot. Jaxson is that physically gifted -- he simply hasn't played enough basketball, and he needs to develop his body. This is why, when he was drafted, the analytics had him as the #4 player in the draft: the potential was always there. If Jaxson is putting in the work this summer, then look out, because the NBA will definitely be sucking his d***.
All my concerns about Jaxson have been about his mental makeup and attitude. If that's right, then he'll be an All-Star.
I love NAW, but his ceiling is a lot lower than Jaxson's.

Can we just start calling him Jaxson Taze now?
It’s a joke, I know people will come at me on here for anything because too many cops on this site.

Everybody has always said that, though. Hayes' free throw percentage and form always indicated that he was capable of developing an outside shot. That was absolutely a part of the scouting that led him to be considered a very high upside pick. He also had a low floor because of a perceived lack of passion for the game, which made teams question his drive.
His drive was definitely questionable for a good portion of his rookie year, but something seemed to click toward the end of the year, and he seemed to be on a solid growth trajectory through last season. He also seems to be working on his toughness through wrestling, so that's another plus.

That’s an interesting take, comparing him to Giannis. When he was drafted I hoped he could grow into an Anthony Davis-like player by year 3. The aggression Jax plays with is striking and I could follow you with the Giannis comp.
His basketball iq (dude was lost on the floor) has been his biggest barrier outside of skinny frame, and to the front office credit they surrounded him by veteran high iq bigs (Favors,Adams) to start his tenure.
Jaxson might f&@k around and win a starting job. Wouldn’t surprise me, maybe absurd to bet on.
Kira/NAW/BI/Zion/Hayes
(The future??)
With our ‘key’ off-season additions being critical role players coming off the bench while also being able to step in and provide quality starter minutes.
Sato/Graham/Naji/TM3/Jonas
Willy/Temple/Didi/Jones/
I like how Hayes has developed and his demeanor on the court. Hayes has no issue letting you know he’s better than you, and I love that energy.
I always seem to forget Josh Hart smh

Dpoy.. defense is overrated anyway
In this scenario NAW must win best dressed or most likely to succeed?

Giannis with a jumper? And to think I always felt I was going too far comparing him to an AD that wanted to play center. Jaxson may never become a top 10ish player, but stylistically I think he'll end up a lot closer to AD than Giannis.
As for how good he'll be, we've seen flashes of brilliance from him. If he's going to become anything more than a Myles Turner level player, he'll probably show it this season, because star level talent usually shows early or you don't have it. And if he doesn't, there's nothing wrong with a Myles Turner level player.

I can't ever see Jaxson preferring a jumper over a dunk. Did AD ever posterize someone and start laughing as he tapped his head? Jaxson already plays with more attitude and emotion than we ever saw out of AD.
I can't wait just to see what he looks like and if he's added any muscle this offseason.
And as for what Jaxson will ultimately be? There's still a huge variance, but I now think that "decent NBA starter" is his floor.
[Edit]
Are these two pretend players actually very different?
- A stronger, more physical, aggressive AD
- A better-shooting Giannis

I’ve been saying for a while that Hayes has the most potential on the team outside of Zion.
If he continues to mature and takes another leap he’ll be starter quality.
He could be Tyson Chandler with a jumper.

Wut
Other than dunking, these two are nothing alike offensively. Giannis is a force of nature because he can run the offense. The only way to beat him is to wall him off which worked in the past. In no universe will Jaxson’s ball handling be good enough to have a similar impact as Giannis. Jaxson’s best case scenerio is probably a year 2-3 AD with a better jumper. which is still a damn good player. He won’t get 20ppg but stylistically that’s who he’ll be.

Jaxson is a better athlete than Giannis was at his age. Jaxson has soft hands. Please tell me why Jaxson cannot possibly develop his handle to be as good as Giannis. What's the limitation?

Listen I'm all about wanting to eat crow on Hayes, and think he is demonstrating growth patterns that are very promising, but the obvious answer here is that Giannis is a one of one, arguably the best player in the league(or at least top 3).
Hayes is very unlikely to become anything close to Giannis, not least of which they just aren't really built the same. Hayes has quickness for a center, but he has a skinnier frame while Giannis is a freak athlete and you combine that with his strength, and there really just is no one in the league like him.
I'd rather focus on the imminently plausible, which is Hayes finally earning a starting position to a point we no longer feel like we need to keep bringing in vet centers to play in front of him, at least before we talk about him turning into one of the 10 best players in the league.

I don't understand the need for Hayes to turn into a 3pt shooter. I want him to protect the rim, set hard picks and pull down double digit rebounds. You know all the stuff a Center is supposed to do, ala Capella. The offensive stuff is just extra. That is what we need out of the position and Hayes has more than enough talent. I have to keep reminding myself how young and raw he was coming out. This year will reveal a lot.

TBF, you also told me BI's career is basically over because he is 23, then claimed Andrew Wiggins, going on 27, is a superior player. Think Simmons and Zion would be a good fit.
Your judgement of roster construction, and the sport in general, is sort of suspect.

Clint Capella plays with Trae Young and a bunch of other guys who shoot 3-5 S pointers a game at a decent %. Hates plays with Zion who needs spacing.

Tell that to the league. Stretch 5s are pretty highly valued.

It is unlikely his play becomes comparable to Giannis'...but the possibility exists. Giannis was highly unlikely to become what he became.
Giannis was MUCH smaller than he is now when he was at Hayes age. Hayes has football genes. That doesn't mean he will be able to add a lot of muscle mass but the odds are better for him than most 7' NBA guys.
IF Hayes simply mirrors Tyson Chandler with a respectable jumper, I will consider the pick a success.
