I had my routine lymphoma follow-up session yesterday. The Dr. reported that I was still in remission - BUT he warned me sternly about wearing a mask! (I had already told him I only wore it when absolutely required)
He made two points that I have not heard discussed before:
- about the aerosol effect - he said that it is not the size of the virus, (admitted it was smaller than mesh) - he said that it was the electrostatic effect - that the virus was attracted to the mesh and adhered to it.
- the second point was peculiar to my situation - that one of the chemos - (retuxinab to be specific) -that I had been on in my earlier treatment effectively destroyed my immune system relative to the COVID risk - and implored me to not take any chances.
NOW - aside from my total belief in him relative to my lymphoma I know that he has always been a COVID fanatic from the very beginning - and I have not attempted to argue any of my points with him directly.
I do rely on what he says relative to my specific treatment however.
Wonder if any of our other experts on here had any input on the ELECTROSTATIC effect.

Did you point out to this idiotic doctor that we wear masks to protect others, including our most vulnerable loved ones? Find a new doctor who doesn’t buy into QAnon conspiracy theories.

Masks don’t work, we knew this early on that filtration would necessitate N95, worn correctly, tightly sealed. Then, eye protection. While there maybe electro static attraction, it also happens with your eye lashes, and you blink, the virus travels through your nasal-lacromal duct right to the back of your throat. So, there’s a reason these normal masks you see don’t work, not that they don’t reduce transmission, but from the studies out, they only show a minimal reduction of transmission from 2-9%, because the virus can easily get through, around, or just land right on your eye…..

First, wishing you a quick and full recovery.
From what I know, it's usually N95 masks that have the electrostatic effect (they also have a tighter fit) that attracts particles to the surface of the mask, and prevents them from sneaking through.
Interesting that you trust him for a condition that threatens your life, but not regarding masking or Covid. If I had your condition, I would listen to his advice.

Next time tell him you want to show people the research behind what he is saying because they don't believe you. Ask him to provide that research for you.
He probably has his own theory that he is preaching to you, but I doubt he can support it with scientific research.

Of course this is plausible. The mask will have some positive effect depending on type and how it is worn. But it's not 100% like a level A HAZMAT suit with a self contained breathing apparatus.
There are other entryways to your mucous membranes other than your mouth and nose that the masks do not protect you from. Like your eyes.
IMO the virus is predominantly transmitted by touching. People touch their face 1000s of times a day. The virus is picked up my their hands and transmitted to the mouth, nose and eyes by touching. Can it transmit by air? Absolutely. It's just my opinion that viruses are transmitted by touching more than by air.

Who is charging up their mask with static electricity for that to even happen?

The mask is a petri dish that grows harmful bacteria in excess. If you are immunocompromised, how does keeping harmful bacteria near your mouth, nose and eyes protect you?
if you were using high quality disposable masks and throwing them away every time you left a room, they "might" help but that isn't realistic.

Show us the peer reviewed paper stating any respiratory virus has and electrostatic attraction to a mask of any kind. And if so, why does the water pass right through, it has a dipole
