I wonder how much we waste on prisons and repeat offenders? I guess we could look that up. I’d much rather help people who had no part in causing the assistance needed.

You sound like a socialist.

They’re gonna be all over your tv saying “we care for Louisiana. We’re here to help you, Louisiana!”
No they aren’t. They don’t care about you. They’ll give you a few crumbs but won’t help much at all. Once the news cycle runs it’s course it’s only going to get more difficult.
I’ve been pretty damn irritated when I see politicians on tv talking about Ida and saying “this one of the strongest storms to hit Louisiana since the 1850’s!”
Bitch, no it’s not! One hit a year ago but you’re not going to mention that because you dont want to remind anyone to know that you’ve completely bailed on SWLA and refuse to help with the restoration and cleanup around here. You don’t want to give Louisiana Senators any leverage whatsoever because you’ve done nothing but deny supplemental aid for the past whole YEAR.
frick those people. Scum. Of. The. Earth.

How is it a hand-out when you pay taxes? Fine… you win. Never ask for another penny and I’ll never ask either.

Hurricanes suck. Well, natural disasters suck. I hope it works out for everyone.
Looking forward to moving in Arkansas or New Mexico some day

What?
You pay a sales tax, presumably, when you shop. Do you go to Kohls and ask for $$$ back because you’re out of underwear?

It's possible your homeowners insurance would cover that if a mandatory evacuation was ordered, that the loss of use coverage on your policy

Now, in a perfect scenario, the government entities of the United States would spend it's tax dollars on taking care of the needs of it's citizens, but it doesn't work that way and never has in my life time, especially when it's democratic leadership.

What specifically were you denied?
If lodging assistance, FEMA cannot, by law, cover expenses that can be paid by insurance. I was told today
If I wanted to appeal, I could. But be prepared to have receipts.
Was told that I could still qualify for disaster insurance. To keep an eye on my Account

My neighbor is getting 6 weeks in a hotel suite. She (disabled) and her husband (disabled) and her 2 adult children, only 1 disabled.. Also 5 special needs grandkids. By the way she has not paid income tax in 5 years.

So hurricane prone areas, tornado prone areas, drought prone areas, flooding prone areas, forest fire prone areas should all move to the great state of Kentucky. That’s rational.

Government doesn’t work for the tax payer. It works for the people who abuse the system. It is bizarre if you ask me.

Is the government supposed to reimburse you for leaving your house for a storm?
In today’s climate they are supposed to take care of you from cradle to grave. You didn’t know that?

Pretty much this. Fema sucks, dont count on them to reimburse for much more than a chainsaw. Your insurance should reimburse you for expenses if you were in a mandatory evacuation. Also, like another poster said, when you get running water some insurance companies will then consider your house liveable and not reimburse after that date. Then comes the fighting with insurance just to cover the damage to your property. I feel for you, its a long soul draining process that may take 3 months to well over a year to complete.
Edited to add: be thorough when choosing your contractors. Theyve arrested quite a few here for fraud since Laura.
