In my opinion this is the first album anybody should refer to as an example of the best of the grunge era (nothing against Nevermind, I just think PJ has a more complete sound)
So many great recordings and for me it’s easily in the top 5 debut albums of all time no matter who you ask.
Linking 2 of my favorites that aren’t the usuals of “Even Flow”, “Alive” and “Black”.. which are all still fantastic in their own right.
Jeremy
Garden
*also if anybody knows the origin story better than myself please input, but wasn’t Chris Cornell a major factor in getting Eddie V up to Seattle from California and introducing him to the members who would later form PJ via Temple of the Dog?

Pretty sure that it was Jack Irons.

This is correct.
ETA: Andy Wood, lead singer of mother love bone od’d. Band needed a new singer. Jack irons gave eddie an instrumental demo, and he put words to it. The songs would later become alive, once and footsteps… AKA the mamasan trilogy.

I love the Ten album. Of the songs you listed, "Jeremy" feels like the only PJ song they ever play on Sirius XM.

Already explained. Jack Irons and the MamaSon tape. Cornell was instrumental in not treating Vedder like crap. Which apparently was the thing to do with many of the other Seattle guys. Vedder then became everything Andy Wood wasn’t. Clean and dependable.

I was still living in Baton Rouge when it came out, shortly before my move to Texas and I wore that CD out.
Saw them on that tour in New Orleans at Municipal Auditorium, and we hadn't even heard the CD yet, we were going more for the Pumpkins and RHCPs.
Hopefully, the little festival they are playing here goes off without a hitch and I can see them again for the first time since that tour.

I still clearly remember the first time I heard it. The song was Even Flow. I was 11 years old and my friend from middle school was raving about it and played it for me on his boom box. I hated it. It took me about 15 years to come around on Pearl Jam.

What is this? Details, please.

Is the OP really saying that “Jeremy” isn’t one of the usuals?

And played Tipitina’s less than six months later and after the municipal show (which btw they replaced Nirvana on that bill). Or maybe the pumpkins did.

No I'm not, I realize it's one of their most popular songs among casual fans.. but compared to those other 3 listed in terms of popularity it's not even close

I’ll always remember where I was when I first listened to this album.

Sea Hear Now festival in Asbury Park NJ. Two day festival, three total stages, two of them on the beach. This will be the third or 4th year they have had it.

Maybe turn on channel 22 instead of 34.

To add context: we’re as far from 10’s release as 10 was from when Patsy Cline and Roy Orbison ruled the airway (1961).
1961 seemed way further away from 1991 than 1991 seems from 2021. Civilization peaked somewhere around 1998

Older cousin got me into lots of music of that day, PJ one of them along with GNR and AIC. It was the catchy guitar riffs and solo from Alive that started it, then Even Flow, but its when you really give the album a full shake you realize how good it is.
Garden, Porch, of course Jeremy, etc.

Yep, I bought the album after I heard that song on the radio. I had no idea how much music would change in the next few years.
