Saw them on the Ten tour in April of ‘92 headlining a club called The Edge in Orlando. Again in Orlando just a few months later for Lollapalooza which was obviously a short set. Great both times but the Edge show was amazing.

I was there for the peppers.

Knew Alive from PJ and was like “hey this other band has a chick on bass.”

I do remember Vedder in the rafters though.

Set list

Wash
Once
Even Flow
Alive
(?)
Smells like Teen Spirit (tease)
Porch

Haha - yeah definitely sub-PJ level everything, but if you had the CD it was cool to know that’s what PJ came from and it had its own funky charm.

In my opinion this is the first album anybody should refer to as an example of the best of the grunge era (nothing against Nevermind, I just think PJ has a more complete sound)

About 3 songs on there for the usual fan. The rest is just IMO a different sounding metal album. Awesome but Cornell full vocal and foot on the gas. I always think of Birth Ritual. Singles soundtrack I know. Awesome riff. Awesome vocal. But I can’t understand a word. I of course grew to love Cornell vocals. His voice aged better than all of them. Well Vedder only as the other two died.

Would be awesome to think of. A Cobain stripped down show. Just him and a guitar. Like Cornell. Or a mature and clean Staley with Cantrell on acoustic only. Could Layne play rhythm? Honestly asking.

Those would be awesome shows. Cool to think about.

Listening to the start of PJ sound check. PJ fans have invaded my little town and the line for PJ merch was stretched four city blocks with some PJ fans already waiting in line for tomorrow's fest and gates don't open until noon

Ten is a great album as is Nevermind. Both of those get mentioned as probably the best of the 90s with good reason. For me though, my own personal favorite album of the 90s and one of my favorites of all time is Faith No More’s “Angel Dust”. Not as commercially appealing as the other two, but a complete masterpiece to my ears. I find Angel Dust to be a much richer, interesting album both sonically and conceptually than Ten or Nevermind. That went for back then and now. That’s just my opinion, so take it for what it’s worth…

*edited to say ONE OF my favorite albums of all time.

I also prefer it over Ten or Nevermind. I like when that album gets a shout out.

Yeah, man! I respect those other albums for their greatness and I don’t let their popularity or airplay influence it in a negative way. When I heard Angel Dust though, it just hit me in a different way. I love the sound of the recording and the way it is layered. The musicianship is of a very high quality, and has a perfect balance of groove and melody. The lyrics are original, expertly crafted and even sometimes profound. The lyrical quality of Everything’s Ruined, Smaller and Smaller, Malpractice and Midlife Crisis come to mind.
I saw Faith No More in January of 93 at Tipitina’s in New Orleans and it was an amazing show.

Underrated?

Under played. Incredible song and as he has gotten older he pronounces the lyrics better letting the audience in more.

But the first time I heard it it was like a religious experience and I couldn’t make out half the words. Later to find out it was about the dead father he never go to know well.
