It's been forecasted as a 4 at landfall for at least 2 days now, maybe longer.

Correct. All of us who have stayed this long knew what we could potentially be in for. I don’t know what about seeing a forecast come to life would make someone risk evacuating during the early stages of impact . Makes no sense to me. We must now sleep in the beds we’ve made

A request to everyone...

I know we keep these threads fairly light, as I know it helps to relieve some stress during stressful events.

Moving forward, and considering the severity of the situation and strength of the storm, can we all agree to keep the side threads within the thread to a minimum so that people don't have to wade through topics not related to Ida?

A lot of people lurk and get info from here, so if we can keep the ancillary comments to a minimum, then that would be appreciated.

If you're able to safely report on your conditions, then please do so, as it may help others.

Lastly, if you need any help, then please post what you need on here. There are so many people here that are willing to help, so let us know if you need anything.

Best of luck to everyone and God bless all of you in Ida's path.

I’m staying but I’m in a newly developed neighborhood with no trees to worry about. Not worried about flooding, especially if the center ends up slightly east of us. In-laws have a generator and we can go there after when power is out for days.

How do you track the plane

You can do it at tropicaltidbits.com

There's a section for flights that updates every few minutes.

What scares you the most, the hurricane or your wife being right?

About an hour ago my wife asked what I think we could expect. I told her to expect to hear the roof creek and crack in the high winds, hear the sound of trees breaking outside, debris hitting the house, and a roar/whistle outside all while being out of power and unable to see radar or out the window to see what’s happening.

By the time I finished talking, I felt a bit of panic swell up into my stomach. At that point I was like “well frick”

Staying. No kids and no trees. Probably would leave otherwise.

I left my house in New Orleans yesterday to come to Baton Rouge. I came to my girlfriends house in a brand new neighborhood, whole house generator and no trees. I packed a bunch of stuff from my house and I’m here. Yesterday I was more nervous about Baton Rouge but didn’t want to take a chance with being stuck in a flooded new orleans, at the time those were slim chances but still didn’t want to take them. Now I’m still nervous in Baton Rouge but I’m very nervous for new orleans.

Don't do that. If you had a tornado shelter you would walk her into it. Just load up, point N and drive. People will help you if needed.

Start/pin a check-in thread once shite starts going sideways in the AM like someone suggested. That will at least make those posts easier to find.

I've got two small kids and we left to stay with family. Probably would have stayed to ride it out if not for them.

Link for checking the tides at different locations around the coast. Some of the observed tides already 1 to 2 ft above the normal tide levels
