I am going to ride this out with my mother near Prairieville. No fear of flooding or trees falling...I am just there to help get the generator running when the lights inevitably go dark.
Serious question....and one I genuinely don't know the answer to, and forgive me if it is ignorant. She lives in a subdivision and several people on her street boarded up their windows. Is this really necessary? Can winds at 100mph blow windows out? Or are the boards just there to protect from flying debris?

Morgan City is down to 44%. Baton Rouge is as 45%.
Are those for sustained hurricane force or gusts? What are the chances of sustained hurricane force in Ascension?

Should we start an Official Hurricane Side Topics thread for people to keep the lighthearted BS in?

Learned about the Zello app, enables your phone to act like walkie, it’s free and could be helpful with downed WiFi

I believe this one is from San Antonio. I could be wrong, though.

Zello requires WiFi to work or some sort of internet access

What elevation is it looking at there? I know it increases over distance, but any idea?

Is the Weather Channel screwed up for anyone besides me? Other channels seem to be ok. Don’t know if it’s my cable service glitching or everywhere.

You're going to find a whole lot of people who understand. If you've done your prep, you should be ok. You can also just scurry up I55 if it'd be better for your mental well being.
Our travel board discussions this summer were a lot more fun.

It doesn’t work without WiFi

Never heard about this app until abiut 2 hours ago and now I have seen it 5 times. Their PR is doing work.

Mine said WiFi or turn airplane mode off. I had cell service though so couldn’t really test it

Leave now or first thing in the morning
I don’t know about the morning. Tropical force winds were predicted at noon today to hit New Orleans at 8 am Sunday.
That was before they moved up landfall and before it intensified. Leave now if you must. Leaving tomorrow morning seems to pose the very real risk you get caught on the road in the storm. And go north. Going east or west seems like a horrible idea at this point.

I’d say if you’re so scared you want to puke....
You aren’t going to sleep well so just make a pot of coffee and start driving ASAP
If anyone wants me to find them a hotel while you go pack and calm the tits and the wife-I will help for a little bit here.

Moving forward, and considering the severity of the situation and strength of the storm, can we all agree to keep the side threads within the thread to a minimum so that people don't have to wade through topics not related to Ida?
Can I still try to provide some levity? It's literally all I'm good for in these threads.
