I'm not a hunter, but I love seeing pictures of the bears in the wild, especially a momma bear with her cubs. Just out of curiosity, are bears on your hunting land a bad thing?

It depends.
I would tolerate bears if I had a bear tag and open season on them.

Hogs have done more damage to feeders on our property than bear. We don't have a lot of bear but have several photos of them standing with their paws on the feeder and yet it's the hogs that have cost us

No. It's only bad if you're a corn pile hunter. Bears are an indicator species.

Bears are a huge part of life here. You have to deal with them regardless of how urban you are. Just learn to deal with them.

I love watching them, never get tired of it.

If I can hunt them, and render their fat, I’m sure we’d be great friends. I can’t wait for black bear in Lousiana to be in season. I may even plant some berries for such an occasion.

Bears are a problem where you can’t hunt them. Where you can hunt them, bears are good eating.

A healthy ecosystem. If bears are doing well, a lot of other species usually are as well.

We had major bear problems at our hunting lease in Mexico for years. Bears just tear the feeders up. They knock them down and then jump up and down on the barrels and will rip the spinner assembly off and get the corn out. We tried a lot of things but nothing really worked great.

I built a few of these and put them in known problem areas and they never had an issue. We have about 20 of these now. [/img] [/img]

Bottom of cage swings open for access. Barrel just sits in between the 4 posts with no straps. A bear would have to lift it straight up to get it out. They have tried and we find lots of bear fur in the expanded metal from time to time. Left the expanded metal sticking up on top and bottom as a sharp paw deterrent.

First 2 were installed in 2013 and we have had zero problems with bears damaging a single one or damaging a single spinner. We used to hate bears now no one cares about them.

Not for hunters. For those that consider throwing out 50 lbs of corn at a time hunting, they can be a pain in the arse.

Bears are native. Pigs are not.

Bears belong. Pigs do not.

For when hunting hard means you ran out of propane for your heater

Yes, tasted a lot like a ribeye. You could substitute beef with bear. It won’t be a problem here, but up north where plant based food can be more scarce, the bear can taste fishy because they eat a lot of fish in fall/winter.

Not a bad thing. Just a thing. We’re covered up with them and it’s time they gave us a few tags. Until you’ve spent time around Tensas, you won’t believe the population size we have. On one trip over a while back, I saw 8 bears in less than 24 hours. Basically, one afternoon and one morning.
They eat feeders. I don’t care about that. They eat wood shoot houses. That sucks.
