Do you think it’s possible any of these attorneys contacted her regarding what happened? It would be a miracle if there wasn’t a law suit these days.

Let's see where it goes. IMO, negligence should absolutely be considered.
The DOTD's (government's) job is to keep the roads safe. There are safety issues and federal highway regulations that are regularly ignored.
For example, probably 80% of guardrail and bridge rail don't meet current standards. Plenty of people have won lawsuits regarding this type of stuff, even people who were drunk and drove through guardrails.
Was this a freak flood or does that underpass flood with every rain? Are there pumps? Are they working? If it regularly floods, has something been put in place to warn drivers or does the government just ignore the problem?
I don't know the particulars are in this case, or if they have standing, but that's what the courts are for.

Remember the Memphis bridge? Day 1 I called it saying that crack had been there for a while and it must have been in previous reports. Then inspection footage from a drone was released from a year or two earlier, clearly showing the crack. They've fired the lead inspector but those reports(including photo/video) are supposed to go through a bridge engineer, then to the state headquarters, where it is supposed to be reviewed each step of the way. Arkansas is throwing one guy under the bus.

I still wonder how that happened. Could he not crawl out of the window?
Not sure.
If he was blocked or obstructed by another car that piled on....that had to have been horrifying.

Was his car trapped by other cars and then the other people just left him there to die? Tbh when I saw that this happened I thought some kind of police investigation should happen about this but definitely didn’t expect them to bring a case against the city bc of the flood itself.

I believe it's LA 1248 at that point, so yes.
The city had been claiming streets and roads in that area in order to annex properties into the city and away from St, George, It may be a city street now. Who knows?

don't be an idiot and try and surf on water with your car.

BRProud.com article with more information.
Edit: witnesses say he was trying to break his window to get out. Perhaps he drove in and his door jammed.
I’ll take this moment to suggest if you don’t have a window breaker/seat belt cutter tool, buy one for your vehicles. Vehicle windows are very strong and you aren’t likely to punch your way through them from the inside. It will also get you inside another vehicle more quickly if you need to rescue a child in a hot car. Alternatively, remember to try using your feet to push out the windshield instead of a window from the inside.

You have a point. The city has been doing aggressive annexation including part or all of major roads in order to box out St George.
And even if this were in St George, SWB’s lawsuit to block the annexation means that they wouldn’t have liability for this because they weren’t an entity at the time of the death.

I drove past it shortly after it happened. If it was dark (and it was) the dip in the road is so short that it would look like flat roadway when driving toward it. People caught in it would be under water before they knew what hit them. The cars were all jumbled together, some with cars on top of them. It would definitely be possible to be trapped underwater with cars smashed on all sides and above you. So, i wouldn’t call this a Darwin situation. I think it’s sad how litigious our society has become, but i think this case has as good or better a chance as a lot that get paid.

You figure if Alton Sterling's death can be used as a shake down, then anyone has a shot.

It has flooded before. Once that I can remember in the last 2-3 years.

This is a good reminder to everyone to have some sort of window breaker/seat belt cutter in your car. I have one of these in case of emergency (below) - it has a spring-loaded pinpoint in it that breaks glass if you simply push on it. Also has a seatbelt cutter and sits in a cigarette lighter for quick access (called the “stinger”):
I could see it - the road there is quite steep. Having never seen high water there you’d expect it would be empty and then you could be pinned between cars. That’s where having a window breaker could be a life saver.

Even if it never flooded before, a major underpass like that is a natural catch basin for water in a flash flood.
It is reasonable to assume there would be a situation where you would need markings telling you how deep the water is there.
It is unreasonable to require DOTD or the City Parish to take measures to warn about something that has never happened before, with no indication of it ever happening.
That would be like requiring stop lights be installed for an intersection that hasn't been built yet.

That was a CRAZY fast flood. Despite all of us being Darwinian masters, I see exactly how this happened. The water fell so hard and rose so fast . And that is a death trap in that situation.
Is it though. I get its possible is car got wedged by another. But was he just sitting under the bridge waiting it out? Or did he drive through deep water with stalled vehickes already there?
Plus this is why I have a device that cuts seat belts on one end and shatters windows on the other.
You can call it Darwin, some may call it conspiracy doomsday prep. I call it being prepared because vehicles are deadly.

Maybe it will take some lawsuits in order for them to fix some of the problems...

As I said above, it has happened before…
